I need a hitch for a Brinkley plow

Recommended Posts

Joe 77 B100

Can anyone tell me about the hitch for a Brinkley moldboard plow?  Someone gave me both the plow and a wheel horse tractor but it has a snowblower on the front and I don't know anything about the hitch.  Hard to find?  Is there just one or many styles?  Hard to find?  Thanks

I've just recently picked up a Clevis hitch and Brinley moldboard plow.

Here's a link to the hitch from our own vendor:

Others will chime in with more help.

It's called a clevis hitch. You can also make an adapter to be used with the standard slot hitch.

Depending on the model tractor you plan to use it on, you may also need the under seat rockshaft. They are required for any tractor that has the fuel tank under the seat. All others just require the cable assembly.

First pic is the clevis hitch, second is an adapter for the slot hitch.

I have a 77 b100 and I think I need a cleavage hitch. Can I assume it attaches to the lift handle? And then you use the lift handle to adjust the height of the plow?

I have plowed with both style hitches and both have there pros & cons. The plow seems to trail better with a Brinly style but they can be twisted in very hard or rocky soils. The adapter style is good for occasional plowing but can bend if you try lifting it with the plow in the ground and using hydraulics. Not a big deal with manual lift as to lift it you will have to reverse a bit unless you have the arms of the Hulk. Since the slot hitch is cast you can bust up the hitch. Uncommon but it does happen. The adapter style lends its self better to a ten or eight inch plows.

It would attach to the lift cable like the first pic and the knob in back of the lift lever sets the depth.

I can see an attachment rod in the top pic.  I'm assuming it connects to the lift handle on the left side of our machines.  That would lower or raise your attachment.

The bottom pic and hitch doesn't seem to have that.  How do you raise/lower that one?

Its not a rod but a cable that runs to the rockshaft on the lift lever. 2nd pic the same. I don't have the cable hooked to the slot hitch but you can just see it hanging there. Not all tractors came with a rear hitch or the cable. It was optional. For example if it was bought new for just mowing no need for nothing more than perhaps a drawbar.

You need it all including the rocker shaft that fits in the fender bracket. The clevis hitch, the cable to the lift. Wheelhorse parts and More has it all. His clevis hit is heaver and built better then the original Wheel Horse one.

Also check the cable lift tube that is bolted to the top of the transmission it may be too rusty to put a new cable in. Mine was and it's a 1989 I got it opened up some but would not trust it with a new cable.

The slot hitch has the lift arm, and the adapter mounts to it.

Not my pic, but a good one.

Here is a rock shaft kit I ordered from Lowell at Wheel Horse Parts and More ( vendor on here in Classified) for my 1984 Work Horse and a few pics of me installing it…

Hope this helps… Maybe someone else can chime in about if the same would work on your tractor …

Your camera takes really good pics Newbie! :handgestures-thumbupright:

I thought he was trying to outfit a B series? I have no idea what a B needs for a rockshaft & lift gear.

The 1977 B-100 is the same basic tractor as the C-Series with the wide bolt down fender bracket and with out the lights and had a low back seat.
