So I made the mistake of washing the winter grime off my 68 bolens 1050, and now the expensive LED replacement headlights stopped working.

Now I don’t know the first thing about electrical stuff so my first instinct was to grab a test light and start poking things7C6FA446-DF01-442E-832A-790B890D75EB.jpeg.ef29463c134b539a2a725c81590846d4.jpeg13AB3B4F-B0AF-4CCE-81B3-020845A2F4A1.jpeg.51f5e601c3f67c7f5baba4316e855b10.jpeg

Both sides of the headlights are positive with the switch in either the on or off position.

Both sides of the switch are positive when it’s on, when I turn it off only one is positive.

now for most people that might mean something, but I unfortunately don’t know how to put a wrench on electricity. Now the wiring on this tractor is about shot, but I haven’t made any attempt to correct it because if I were to rewire it it would probably never run again😅

so would anyone be able to coach me through whatever this is? I’m thinking somethings shorting out seeing that everything is positive. But maybe I’m just not using the test light correctly. I have it hooked to the positive battery terminal if that helps

(ignore the bungee holding the battery in place, my standards are impossibly high)🤣

Check your shorts… er… for shorts. Trace the wires and look for disconnected sections. Fuse? Post wash problem tells me you brushed something loose or got water where it’s not wanted…blow dryer on the switch to dry it out. If that don’t work, jump the switch…

(And I use black zip ties on my batteries. My very high standards)… :hide:

The clip on the test light should be connected to the battery ground cable. The probe can then detect voltage from the battery. With the light connected to the positive cable you are detecting grounds.

Rewiring isn't too bad if you replace one wire at a time...

So now when I’m in town I’m gonna see what kinds of inline fuse things I can buy to stick in it

I'd look for a waterproof inline fuseholder, maybe one for a boat.
