squonk 41,320 #26 Posted March 27, 2022 (edited) Belts wear from the sides. The other belt was probably originally 5/8" probably worn down to 9/16" If you have another 1/2" pulley there slip the belt on it and compare it to how that belt fits on the pulley on the engine Edited March 27, 2022 by squonk 1 1

But I'm guessing your original belt was a 5/8 but worn down enough so it worked well. Then when you bought the new 1/2" belt it would work on light loads but slip in 3rd on that front pulley because it's too wide.

squonk 41,320 #32 Posted March 27, 2022 You need a bearing separator to grab the pulley and a gear puller to grab the separator.
