By the way, are you supposed to check oil level in trans when the oil is hot or cold or does it matter

I might be wrong, but I don't think oil expands or contracts because of temperature.  That's why we use it in hydraulics.  

   I think you are telling us that you have never checked the oil in your vehicle.  If you have, you would know it does not make a difference.

Also if you want to run cheap 10w-30 motor oil for a few changes, it won’t hurt anything and might slosh around a bit better. Hydros especially the xi machine run that and even use bevel gears

Interesting approach. Unless your trash is being burned in an energy recycling plant (as ours is) it's still going into the ground somewhere.
