High Lift blades

Recommended Posts

ANTPER

Hi folks

Looking to buy real good set of high lift cutting blades on my 310-08. My deck has only 2 blades. 18.5 long blades. Shoot clogs up very easy this past few seasons and blades back edges are getting on thin side. So I'm ready to get decent high lift set of blades. Now are factory blades recommended or even made? A tractor barn or amazone version same quality? Thanks.

Anthony

Believe the right blade was different for 37" models with a bagger. There is a tab bolted to the tip of the blade to enhance airflow.

The blade's center hole could be 5/8" x 3/4" or just 3/4" so get the correct ones for your model deck.

Hmm, both my blades are identical. no bolted on wing. Maybe why I'm not throwing grass up far enough and clogging

The blades are at the bottom right of this drawing

The right blade may have the 5/8" x 3/4" center hole. I recall a special bushing to use that blade on a 3/4" round spindle.

Do you know the model number of your bagger?

The “high lift” blade Gary is referring to is designed for use with the non-powered bagger attached to the 37” SD deck. The blade (on the right side only) was ‘designed’ for use to enhance discharge thru the tube when bagging only (you could use it for regular grass cutting BUT it was 2x-3x more than a regular blade). Wheel Horse really never sold special blades to lift up grass while cutting. As to why your deck is clogging my first guess would be grass is too tall, try cutting more often. If you have the chute attached to your deck, it can be removed to increase discharge rate. Word of caution: If you do that be aware of what direction that 37” is pointed. I broke a $600 entry door glass from 30-40 ft with an acorn one year.

Yes my unit has the plastic tube that swings back around me and dumps into bag system hanging on rear. Now you mention the right blade has the wing on it. Now is right blade the one closets to discharge opening?

Yes.

Left and right are always from the operator's position in the seat.

The design of the 37SD deck was one of the only ones produced by Wheel Horse that actually created lift with stock blades. The longer blades meant higher tip speeds and combined with the shape of the deck made for decent lift before cut. The 37 deck has one of the cleanest cuts you can get on a Wheel Horse. The 60SD would be the only competition for best cut.

If your 37 is clogging, I seriously doubt high lift blades will have much of an effect. This time of year, grass is soft and gooey. It doesn't stand well, and sticks to everything. Nothing cuts great right now, and my Scag zero turn can attest to it. A month from now? Completely different story.

If anything, I would recommend gator blades. The actually have less vertical lift, but shred the clippings. Once the grass gets past spring, they work great. Right now, unless you have a manicured and professionally-sown yard, all you can do is lop the tops off everything until later in the year.
