But 30w oil with ZDDP is best suited for flathead air cooled engines. That's right all the K10hp through the K16hp are flathead air cooled engines---- right so good oil Edited March 23, 2022 by sparkie333
sparkie333 265 #27 Posted March 23, 2022 Nice flathead---I use any kind of 30w Non/detergent oil ---I have 6 of these engines in garden tractors and I never have changed oil---unless I had a leaking oil shut off valve---or I put something in the engine by mistake. I bought my tractors used and they all used oil--Most of them when working the whole summer would use a qt-of oil so that was changing for me.--But I can see how the crud could build up in them. I had one that I had to pull and while it was off I drained the oil and took the oil pan off and could not find any thing that looked like crud. I do always try to keep clean air filters on them. The gear box in my DoAll saw calls for non detergent, that's the only place I use it. One of my air compressors calls for Mobil1.
