@ebinmaine  those AMC cars actually were pretty rare , even back in the day . with all the big 3  really banging heads , for the same idea . if you ever go west , thats where you see , rust free cars , 40-50-60 years old . saw a marlin at the roger penskie ,auto world show in Scottsdale ariz , with a complete , late model L/S drive train in it , almost typical of the saving of a classic . seeing classic daily drivers out there is just amazing . dry and rust free , pete

I was either 11 or 12 - my Uncle Warren had a 1963ish Rambler American. I went with him to the local Nash - then Rambler - now American Motors dealership. I don't recall just why we went there, but, larger than life, was a shiny new 2 tone 1966 Marlin in the showroom. Impressive looking for a company that cranked out cars mostly geared to geriatrics.

@ri702bill  had a similar never forget view,  1963, was at a Chrysler / Studebaker  dealer  , they were unloading a  white  AVAVTI , red leather interior , disc brakes and super charged , talk about a space craft !  there was nothing else like it , used to go down late in the afternoons to watch them unload cars . my father had a 39 Plymouth, back in the day .,pete

Not to hijack this post, but Studebaker did have some impressive cars - Silver Hawk, Golden Hawk, Commando, and the sleeper - the supercharger version of the Lark.

Knew a gentleman that had a collection of classic Ramblers. He had told me about a station wagon he had with a retractable roof. One day I followed a station wagon with what appeared to be an upright refrigerator or freezer still in it's carton stuck up out of the roof. Knew it had to be him. About a week later I heard he had passed away.

No worries.

Hijack away...

I knew a fella years ago that had restored a Stude Avanti.

Off-white exterior, gorgeous tan hand sewn leather interior.

289 if memory serves. Not sure of other details...

My first day of kindergarten and  I put those dents in the rear quarter . One Sunday morning before church I ran out the door and jumped into the driver seat and acted like I was driving .Before I knew it I was rolling down the driveway across the road into the ditch ! :D I even remember crying the day dad sold it.  The wife said they had a green one growing up .

The Studebaker Wagonair was later reincarnated as the GMC Envoy XUV.

Neither was much of a success.  Seems like a great idea to me.

I’d rather have the Stude.

I was a teenager in the 60's. The main thing I thought was cool about Ramblers was the front seats laid down...:happy-partydance:

This was a Gremlin 3 spd. Jeeps had Torque flites and Autolite carbs. And teeny tiny woodruff keys driving the rear wheels.
