k301 on a short frame 857

so i was given a k301 with a starter generator and i wanna know if it will physicaly fit under the hood because its a fair bit taller and its just a bigger engine i dont want to have to cut my hood to makes this fit so im just looking for some words of wisdom i saw a guy on youtube i believe vins rj he has a 857 with a kholer magnum 10hp and it seems very do able  i just wanna know what you guys think

Don't have an 857, but before you cut a hood make a taller hinge bracket or spacer...

I believe then you’d have essentially a 1057, which was a thing.  That said, it should fit just fine

Oil pan may have been shorter in height on those early engines

Yes you need the shallow pan and the correct connecting rod to go with it.

 

A K301 will use a lot more fuel than a K181. You'll get stranded in the woods.

Or bob the rod....or use a Cub short pan and hack the frame up to fit. 

You would also need a different pulley.

 

Better idea is to look for a roller long frame to put it in.

i have a k301 with a flat oil pan it is 2and a half inches tall is there any thinner pans out there i’m having some clearance issues that i’m trying to resolve

There are diffrent oil pans, but you will need to found a shorter oilslinger

Find the part number for an oil pan for a 1045, These were big block's in a short frame from the factory.

A 1045 came with a K241AS. Yes I know that is a 10hp engine but the oil pan should fit a K301. A quick search found some flat pans on

what are you putting in the search bar i can’t seem to find one  i see some that came off a cub but they have like a drain plug at the bottom that would interfere

Did not find one for a WH per say. Important thing to look for is the threaded mounting holes in the bottom for the right hand side mounting bolts. You could also try posting in the want adds here for a 1045 oil pan.

Yet when it comes to working hard, my K301 does better on fuel than my K241 does.

The 241AS is what we call a small block, pan from it will not fit a BIG Block. Your best bet is to build a taller hood hinge and steering tower.
