Mustang67ford 234 #28 Posted March 27, 2022 (edited) Made some more progress. Back to where I was 2 weeks ago when I needed to change the frame. Then, got the upper dash and steering installed and 1 side of the sheet metal. I assembled the steering on the bench to install the roll pin then bolted it in place. Because of the steering spring washer, I had to push down on the steering before tightening up the collar. The upper steering rod at the steering fan block all went together good. The steering teeth are just slightly above the block, could not get them to actually touch the block. Ran into a problem installing the steering wheel onto the shaft though. Both are new but the hole in the steering wheel did not completley line up on one side. No matter what I did, the roll pin would not go. Had to run a drill bit thru the one side of the steering wheel to allow the roll pin to go. Maybe thats normal, not sure. Mustang67ford 234 #29 Posted March 31, 2022 Got it fired up for the first time and took it for a spin. Circuit board lights are all working. Left the hood off so I can change points and check valves which I have to remove the carb to do. Still need to do something about the rims and tires. The only issue I am having so far, is the pto drum wants to spin with the motor. The brake is not working. If I push the pto brake in, then it pushes it against the clutch disk. I can stop the drum by hand and I can see a small gap between it and the clutch disk, but I can feel it wanting to spin. The drum is brand new. 2 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The drum is brand new. With no deck or other implement belt being on there, it will freewheel. I don't use the PTO brake that came on later tractors. They are a pain to adjust and serve only to make changing belts require tools. It won't hurt anything to let it spin. 1 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

And where do you source the proper color red? I bought a can of red tractor paint at Rural King to repaint the drive belt shield on my 312-A while I had it off, and it's obviously not the right shade of red. I knew it wasn't a "permanent" paint job - I didn't take off all the old paint so you can tell where it had peeled. I reacted with a sad emoji because you were saying the paint you used was not a match, and you said you didn’t expect it to last long… Many on here, including me, use Rustoleum Regal Red in the rattle cans, also some like Rustoleum Sunrise Red… The main thing is to get on here and ask questions about what senior members have used on their tractors… you’ll get plenty of advice and help ! I am sure my paint jobs would not be good enough for a lot of the guys on here, but theirs is good enough for them, and mine is good enough for me. I do laugh at some guys posts, and I kid around a lot on here … that’s just how I am. I have explained myself more than once on here when I thought that some member may have took something the wrong way. But I value the advice and experience I gain on here and do not take it for granted… I have made friends with people on here I have never met… BTW… I have used a wire brush on a drill, chemical stripper, sand paper, sand blasting (hired out), and sanding discs on a angle grinder to remove rust and paint… and most things I have done to my horses is a learning moment… some things worked good, some didn’t… keep asking questions ! peter lena 8,627 #45 Posted April 7, 2022 @Mustang67ford , like that steering flange bearing , have that on my horses . did you add ground cable to your battery bolt cable area ? add that to you engine / frame area ?. from that to rectifier on engine cooling tins , and from that to headlights . like a solid ground for related electrics , bright lights , faster starts . use lucas x-tra heavy duty , green chassis grease on that pto cone needle bearing . just a light coating , no noise or issues , no brake on my pto set up , spins with silent ease . lookin good , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
