I have a 1968 Raider 12. I have got to know it quite well. I brought it back from the dead. Now that I have it running good and looking decent. I want to know what y'all would do to improve upon the original Wheel Horse? Nothing major.

Check the front axle pivot and spindles by jacking it up, let the axle swing. Check for excessive play - if so, machining & bushings may be needed - this really tightens up the steering.

Check for play in the tie rods - if they are shot, there are vendors that sell adjustable length ones with stud style Heim joints to allow you to dial in correct toe-in. Or make your own as I did.

Ditto if you use a plow blade - adding Heim joints to the ends of the angling rod IS the way to go.

Does it have headlights? Taillights? If originality isn’t a concern maybe upgrade to some LED headlight bulbs.

I was lucky. Before my Dad passed away he had ordered a stockpile of parts. This was 33 years ago. When I rescued the tractor I found it all. From gaskets, carb, tie rods, belts for tiller, bolts, lift cables, points and condenser, 12 air filters, 12 fuel filters. Can't have enough filters. All from Wheel Horse. Also both foot rests. Why he ordered the foot rests is a mystery because the originals were rust and damage free other than the surface rust from sitting in the elements. When he was alive the tractor never was stored outside.

[ he had ordered a stockpile of parts] Now that is a handy thing to have. Sory about your Dad. Good luck with the tractor.

@Floyd Pink  in addition to the other  , ideas, the plow frame  front end  STEERING QUADRANT , should be detail lubricated , especially at the spring loaded angle pin area , and related lever movement points. recommend that you  put the frame on milk crates  or  bench to do this service. that way you can watch and verify its easy function. thats how I set up mine , the smooth easy function , can then easily be hooked up to your horse. lucas chassis grease , stands up . good luck with it , pete

BTW Floyd '68 Raider 12 is a favorite model of mine. I inherited it after my stepson smoked the motor field plowing and failing to check the oil. I rebulit the motor and just a all a round go to worker as well as a loaner tractor at plow day.

Do you mean the pre '68 stirrup style foot rests. Not a huge fan of floor boards on a Raider so I replaced mine with them. Like those in the second pic & my favorites.
