C-160 Hydro Rear end swap into GT 14?

Recommended Posts

Have a GT 14 with an ailing transmission / trans axle. Anybody here ever swap a C-160 Hydro rear end unit onto a GT 14? Can it be done?

Is it the GEAR BOX giving you trouble, or the HYDRO PUMP?  The Sundstrand Hydrogear (pump) is model 90-2062 on the GT-14 and it isn't tuff to rebuild.  There are gasket sets available too for about $95.  I have made a .pdf file for FREE download and you'll find intin the Transmission Section of Red Square.

If I can help further, contact me at :  daveoman@windstream.net

There are several good options for an ailing Sundstrand in a GT-14.

#1   As @daveoman1966 said it can be rebuilt.

#2   Another way to go is finding a Charger or electro with a good Sundstrand drive and swap it to your trans axle. I did a thread on this several years ago (attached).

#3   Your axles from the GT-14 could be used in the C-160's transaxle, we don't have a thread on this swap so if you do it please document the process. Some of the linkage from the C-160 will probably be needed.

#4   You could use an Eaton 1100 like @19richie66 did, I have attached that thread too.

@daveoman1966 I think I may have issues with both. I had JB welded a leaking bearing near the filter in the past. Tractor ran fine UNTIL I got my 3 point hitch set up and hooked to my 5x9 trailer. Pulling it worked ok at first until I had to come back up a hill and it really hardly pulled and just didn't sound or feel "happy". The hydraulic cylinder for the 3 pt works fine but something is definitely wrong under power. Don't think I have the skill set to do what either of you gentleman are proposing and have done. Above my pay grade! Might just have to try to locate a GT 14 roller with a good rear end and hydro.

Unfortunately the majority of GT-14s have all been worked hard for a half century so a roller with a GOOD rear-end in it will be hard to come by.

That is likely to be broken springs in the acceleration valves.

I would try those first. Cheapest alternative. @wheelhorseman I believe stocks these.
