Yup Rotella 30 weight in the summer, 10-30 Rotella for cold weather use.

If you only change the oil once a year do you use the straight 30 or the 10W-30?

With that type of a Maintenance schedule, I guess it would not matter - does the drain plug tug back when you remove it?? Seriously, if you work the tractor all 4 seasons as I do - it's every 25 hours.

All of mine are splash lubed with no oil filter - the oil is its life blood.

I’ve been using penzoil 30 weight in my 314-8 since new and had no oil issues with over 1100 hours on it.now this winter I changed to mobil 1 10-30.this oil is reasonably priced in my area is there any reason why I can’t use this oil year round?

There have been numerous discussions here about using multi-weight oil all year long and even more about switching to full synthetic. Both can add to seal leakage - with your engine at 1100 hours it sounds your tractor is a prime candidate to have a puddle under it .......

Most mechanics I know would say the seal already leaked. It just had gunk covering it until synthetic cleaned it off.

You wouldn't use a high ZDDP in a modern gasoline engine in a car or truck because it could screw-up the catalytic converter but it good for old engines. Motor oils made for diesel engines have zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) in them as an anti-wear ingredient. I buy the 30 weight diesel motor oil.

Damage to the cat’s 🐈, causing more pollution must be foremost in the minds of a certain section of the community over here,🇬🇧. My wife read a post on the “Book of Faces” today, that these people have been circulating around our village during the night, removing said ‘Cat’s’ from parked vehicles, presumably in the interest of public health and safety. (Cleaner Air?). Or could it be that they just want to ‘Weigh’ them in for their scrap value!🤔

CatCon theft is real.  Used to be they could be scrapped for a pretty penny.  Recently though it's more difficult to find a scrap yard that doesn't require strong documentation of the source of scrapped CCs.
