RedWheelz 149 #1 Posted March 2, 2022 Just got this Raider 8 and was wondering if the red, white and blue decal is original. Seems like I have seen it on other Wheel Horse photos but maybe not...
ebinmaine 68,464 #2 Posted March 2, 2022 That's an interesting Beast I haven't seen very many of. I don't think that red white and blue decal is original to Wheel Horse but I don't claim to be an authority. That engine is probably also a replacement considering it's the wrong color. What's the plan for it?
Ed Kennell 38,715 #3 Posted March 2, 2022 Not wheel horse. That is the Texas flag. 7
SylvanLakeWH 25,983 #4 Posted March 2, 2022 But the Wheel Horse decals all look correct…
Pullstart 63,107 #5 Posted March 3, 2022 Cool tractor! I haven’t seen many small block Raiders… if ever. It should have a limited slip differential

What's the plan for it? Im cleaning up all the hacks and cobblefication on it. Get new electric fuel pump, muffler, battery. Scrub it with brillo pads and put some boiled linseed oil on it. Just want a little zoom-around rig.

Excellent plan and another great word usage. 3 hours ago, RedWheelz said: Just want a little zoom-around rig. Those Kohler 8 HP engines are great workers. It'll be a good little driver and if you want to get some grunt work out of it you'd be pleasantly surprised what it'll do. Please do feel free to post progress pics....
Retired Wrencher 5,516 #8 Posted March 3, 2022 Now that I own three 8hp Kohler's I can say they are great engines. Made to last if you do all PM`s on them when required.
Ed Kennell 38,715 #9 Posted March 3, 2022 Raiders are tough. I've had Raiders 8,10, 12, 14, and a 9(Tecumseh).
dclarke 4,034 #10 Posted March 3, 2022 Here's a Raider 8 with original decals that I rebuilt a few years ago, I added the different seat and springs. They're great little tractors.
pfrederi 17,894 #11 Posted March 3, 2022 Like the early mule drive, do not see many of them...
Ed Kennell 38,715 #12 Posted March 3, 2022 A few of the Raiders I have flipped. Many had the early style mule drive and all had the best PTO engagement lever wheel horse made.
rmaynard 15,616 #13 Posted March 3, 2022 (edited) The Texas flag...not original. Red, white and blue/gray Wheel Horse decal, original. And you can order replacements from Vinylguy. Edited March 3, 2022 by rmaynard
RedWheelz 149 #14 Posted March 4, 2022 So I cleaned carb and still couldn't get it started. So I ordered new electric fuel pump and still no go. Then....yep.... I found the fuel shut off. Anyhow...it runs good. Got it cleaned up and i was pleased with linseed oil outcome. First time using it. Just need a seat now. 1

RedWheelz 149 #17 Posted March 5, 2022 BTW, How much rear end oil does this take?
ebinmaine 68,464 #18 Posted March 5, 2022 24 minutes ago, RedWheelz said: BTW, How much rear end oil does this take? All 3 and 4 speeds factory spec is 1.5 qts. All 6 and 8 speeds is 2 qts. I put 2 qts in all manual transmissions. Least expensive 80-ish gear oil you can get. 2

Oh… okay… The only manual I have is an 8-speed, and it has a dipstick.
RedWheelz 149 #23 Posted March 6, 2022 Was test drivin it today and she pulls wheelie when taking off in third gear even if you let out clutch slooow. Other gears jerk but third is worst. It it the belt or is there adjustment? Thanks for the help.

Have you checked the condition of the belt, all 3 pulleys, and the tensioner spring? Likely there's a rusty pulley or more. Belt may be due for replacement. Best bet is to get an OE Wheelhorse belt.
