Ominous feelings

On top of everything personal going on here now there is the sound of practicing air raid sirens. Conflict not close but still not a familiar sound which makes for a very uncomfortable feeling. I miss the warm safe feeling of our spacious skies overhead. Everybody is on edge and the stress is not only visible but palpable.

We Americans generally take for granted the safety and security we enjoy. I am praying that the conflict in Ukraine ends swiftly and will not impact the rest of Europe.

@formariz  agree with you on the sense of  something is not right . this entire feeling has been building for quite a while now , living 9 miles from a  US NAVY SUBMARINE BASE , only enhances that  .  don't know if  a calmer sense of  thought is out there , but if there is a nuke launch any ware  , its over , even green grease can't  help , pete

And that in a nutshell sums up the underlying problem… There are always forces at work that run counter to our’s and the world’s peace and security. Always will be. 
 

I join you in your prayers for speedy resolution of this conflict but also for an end to our false sense of security…

If Tsar Vlad decides to push the big red button, living just up the road from  RAF Mildenhall and Lakenheath, As I do, it seems  a bit pointless worrying about writing a will, or bothering to change the oil on the Wheelhorses! Perhaps if I drape a big ‘Red Square’ banner across my roof they’ll ignore me. 🤔

I did quite some work outside today

 

Military training above my head with F16.  Doing al kinds of maneuvers.

Also a military cargo plane flew by, coming from the direction of Ukraine.  

The military all over Europe is preparing .

I was able to spend the last three hours on a Whatzapp call with our Jil in Germany.  The uncertainty of Europe is sad to hear in her voice.  She said the distance to the west border of Ukraine is just as far as from that west border to the conflict fronts.  I pray for peace, but expect worse before it gets better.

These are indeed unsettling times.  Especially when I am noticing parallels between some current events and events in history that happened just a generation or two ago.

 

I agree with you @ranger.  We are only about 1/2 hour down the road of a military installation that I am sure it is on somebody's target list.

What is going on here is a disgrace . Again history repeats itself . We have learned nothing and are just waiting for the inevitable. Everyone’s safety decreases every day this is allowed to continue regardless of where one is in the world. The whole world should look up to the Ukrainian people and in the very least grow a pair of their own. It will be too late when it knocks on everyone’s door.

Not my intent to be political about it. Perhaps the actual problem and cause of the whole situation. Being closer to it and looking into peoples eyes one has a better sense of it . Specially when looking into the eyes of the ones arriving here from there. I can see my old friend Zev’s eyes . They have the same tears as his did.

Times like these make preppers seem a little less paranoid, don't they?

 

All of us get angry when we see what is happening in Ukraine. It's heartbreaking, and disgusting at the same time.

 

That being said, it's time for cooler heads to act. One misstep, and we are at war with Russia. Would we win? Absolutely, but the number of flag-draped coffins that come home before it's over will be like nothing our generation has ever seen before. This won't be like Iraq and Afghanistan. The marvelous weaponry we have now was designed to maximize our chances against the Soviet doctrine and both air and ground defenses- but has never actually faced it. It will be brutal, horrible fighting unlike anything since WW2. 

 

And when Pootin decides he is losing, there is no telling what he will do. Of course Russia will be the largest landlocked lake on earth afterward, but millons will die beforehand. 

 

I don't know what the right answer is right now, but once the first shot is fired it will be too late for discussion. I hope and pray it doesn't come to that. If you think of your children, male and female- and every other military-aged person you know, they WILL go to war. It better damn well be for the right reasons.

 

Sorry for the rant. Like many of you, I see the writing on the wall. I'm an old fart, and my uniform doesn't fit anymore- but I know what happens when we put them on.

It is a very dangerous situation for Europe and the whole world.

I'm no expert but we seem to have allowed putin to build himself a dictatorship right in front of us. 

Russia killed Litvinyenko and tried to kill Skrepal on British soil, with no blow back whatsoever. So he thinks everyone is too scared of him to react.

In the 30s when Hitler invaded Poland it meant war. Now in the 21st century means, don't do anything to make things worse.

Putin us a school yard bully but with nukes. Only way to deal with a bully is to stand up to him, or hope someone or something takes him off the board. 

Not much chance of his own people doing it, they let Stalin murder millions of their own people just because he was in charge. 

Let's just hope he gets some fatal issue pretty soon, whether it's instantaneous lead poisoning or a decent stroke.

We have not talked about nuclear conflict in these terms before, only that it would end everything,  now it seems to be a case of well we should maybe try it, surely some of us will survive to carry on.

I only watch the news so that when I open the curtains each morning I will have a rough idea who was responsible for the mushroom cloud.

For anyone to be actually talking about WW3 is pretty scary, for them to be discussing if it will be nuclear is even more worrying. 

Someone said recently Putin would detonate a nuke over the North Sea to shut up Europe and the UK.  Not much in the way of death and destruction but a pretty clear message.

The biggest worry is that this us pretty much how WW2 kicked off, a nation seeking to take over another country with plans to dominate the whole world. Sound familiar? 

As they said in Ukraine,  we can beat Russia, but the cost is the thing we can't be sure of.

The sad thing is that this could have been avoided. While Ukraine has been begging for about 15 years to join the EU and continuously turned down because they “were not ready” ,we all have been getting chummy with this maniac building pipelines and appeasing him when something similar was done years ago. Essentially building him up. Now even though the world has the power to financially cripple him immediately we still are reluctant to do so and keep trying sanctions little by little. The Russian people  cannot eat nuclear weapons. All because we are worried about gas prices and such. Well my friends, the fact is that it is going to cost much more than that because of our selfishness. Peace of mind is already gone for ever. What’s next you can all imagine.

 

Look up not only to Ukraine’s people 

 to know what courage is but also to their leader to know what the definition of what a real man is. Not many of those in politics.

I'm glad I'm not the only one whom is concerned. My biggest concerns are of course the arrogance of our world's leaders that Putin will not invade other countries. (Which I believe he will) and the other one is how much sufferings do we need to do in our home countries during these sanctions against russia. To me it seems like we are being punished also. Costs are going through the roof!

Bombs are not being dropped in our cities!   We are not suffering and if cooler heads prevail the minor hardships we face will help keep our countries free.

I'm afraid that's a pretty big "if the cooler heads prevail" part.  Most of us will never know what is really going on behind closed doors.  At this point, I am trying to decide how to protect what little I have and my grandchildren's future. 

 

Just this week, an "utility and infrastructure land services" company contacted mom (and her neighbors) offering to purchase their farms on behalf of un-named corporation and an unlisted plans for the use of the land.  We suspect for a wind mill farm?  Mom and her neighbors don't want to sell but from what I have read, eminent domain can be used by private corporations for utilities.  With the push for going to battery operated equipment, such as California has begun instigating, I am sure they will have the backing of federal government. 

 

I would not be surprised if a city does not get bombed.  It may not be outright war by another nation but by ideological peoples.  Unsettling times for sure.

Why? I've read nothing political. I would say it's been carefully avoided. I see no harm in voicing concerns. We're not breaking any rules, and sometimes discussion is a bit of a stress relief.
