416H pinning volt meter

Recommended Posts

I am just getting to know my fairly new (to me) 416H. A little over 300 hours and works great but I noticed the volt meter gets pinned to the max when I start it up. It stays pinned but will drop for a second when turning on the lights but then returns to over 16 v instantly. Could it just be that I haven't used it much this winter and the battery is a bit lower?

Thanks for all the knowledge and wisdom on this site!

First step for me would be to verify the gauge is being truthful by verifying with a known good voltmeter.

The voltage regulator is mounted in the engine shroud at the left rear.  It is grounded to the tin with the mounting bolt and that needs to have good electrical contact, so remove the bolt and clean any rust.there.  If you need to replace the regulator, they can be found cheap online, the factory ones may be better but are very expensive.

Voltage regulators of the type used on your 416 don't fail High. Chances are your volt meter is providing an inaccurate reading like Jeff suggested.
