that extremely innovative steering wheel repair will need looking after!

@ClassicTractorProfessor Nice looking tractor. My C81 says hello to its brother.  When I got my C81 the steering wheel was split around the inside steel insert and had a hose clamp around it identical to that.  With the plastic part of the wheel split it was a little easier to drive the roll pin out to remove it.  I cleaned up the exposed part of the steel insert, coated everything inside with JB Weld and used a hose clamp top and bottom to hold it together.  Reamed the JB weld out of the wheels roll pin hole and reinstalled it with a bolt and nylock nut.  That's been 3 -4 years ago and still holding.

Catching up on this Bryce, it looks nice!  Creative use for the safety wire indeed.  I wonder if the hi-lo shifter is damaged internally, or they just didn’t need to bump it into low or out of high at least?

Well darn...pushed the C81 into the barn and out of the wind this afternoon and proceeded to pull the engine...had planned on getting it on the bench and tore down tonight, then measuring the bore and crank tomorrow after work to see if we needed to find a machine shop or if everything was still within spec order parts for it and hopefully have it running before the Pawnee show in May.

Got it down in the basement and on the bench, starter was the first thing I pulled off and came to an abrupt halt...found this nasty hole hidden behind the starter...crank is shot too...guess it's time to scour the country for a replacement engine.

Good news is that you're not restricted to that K181. You can go with 10, 12, 14, or 16hp if you are replacing the whole engine!

C101, C121, C141, C161. Sky is the limit.

@ClassicTractorProfessor I have a bare k181 blocks if you want to rebuild that one.  Free to me, so free to you, but I suspect it probable need boring.  I can bring it to you if we meet up at the Pawnee Ok Steam Threshers Show.

If you find a different engine I would be interested in your old engine for parts.
