Thanks ahead of time. Guess you must be a writer for ! We give the answer and we respond in the form of a question. WHAT IS: built by Wheel Horse from 1969 to 1972 featuring a 14 HP Kohler engine, Sundstrand transaxle and 15" rear tires? 2 7
Pullstart 62,867 #4 Posted February 24, 2022 You are indeed in the right place for asking questions. We even know most of what we’ll tell you We like to poke once in a while but there’s a wealth of knowledge that is invaluable here! 4
WHMan2012 170 #5 Posted February 24, 2022 Currently there's Automatic Transmission fluid in the rear end, but I've seen videos on YouTube where they're adding 10W-30 Motor Oil instead, so which is correct ? Also, where can I find a service manual on these tractors, I'm still trying to locate one ? The grille piece up front , is that part of the gas tank or seperate, mine didn't come with either ? Thanks again guys for the help.
pfrederi 17,739 #6 Posted February 24, 2022 Came with ATF If your fluid is cherry red it is ATF use Dex/Merc fluid. Never mix it and motor oil. Early GT-14 Had an open front (exposing the gas tank). Later they had a solid cast iron front. 1
stevasaurus 22,739 #7 Posted February 24, 2022 We have a "Manuals" section a little farther down the main page. Enter your model number in the search box. 1

Technically both are correct. They came from the factory with ATF, and later WH released a service bulletin allowing 10w30 provided you removed all the ATF. Personally, I have maintained my older hydros with Dex/Merc ATF, and it works very well. It keeps the gears and bearings cleaner than anything I've seen, and wear is almost non-existent. peter lena 8,627 #9 Posted February 24, 2022 @kpinnc listening to your cleaning experience , next time i , do my trans flush , might give it a try , usually put some road time on my flushing for a thorough cleaning . have used atf in the past , but if this chemical mix is better at cleaning , worth a try , pete 1

There isn't a GT-14 Service Manual but these manuals cover the tractor and most of the components. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/search/?&q=1-7451&type=downloads_file&search_and_or=or&sortby=relevancy
WHMan2012 170 #11 Posted February 25, 2022 Wow, lol ok, so now that you guys have helped me with the tranny fluid ( and Thank You by the way ! ), what brand / number oil filter do I replace this one with ? It looks original, I can't find any numbers on it and before I run it too much I'd like to change everything out. Also it looks like the clear headlight piece is the same from the C-Series tractors, is it ? I sprayed a little PB Blast around the bulbs they've been exposed to the elements far too long and I'm hoping I can change them out with new ones without damaging the sockets. The Model # appears to be 1-7441 / and the Serial # 566760
Pullstart 62,867 #12 Posted February 25, 2022 (edited) WIX 51410 or Napa 1410 are the only acceptable hydraulic filters for the transmission…no matter which tractor. Other brands just don’t cut it Edited February 25, 2022 by Pullstart 4

WHMan2012 170 #15 Posted February 26, 2022 Thank you for the information, I thought it was around a 1974 because of the model numbers, glad to now know it's correct year anyways, thank !
Sparky-(Admin) 21,317 #16 Posted February 26, 2022 Glad to hear this old horse is getting some “love”. I’ve owned MANY Wheel Horses but never a GT14…never even sat on one. Maybe 🤔 I should start searching for one
WHMan2012 170 #17 Posted February 27, 2022 I've had close to a hundred Wheel Horses over the years come through my yard, but this is my first GT-14. Looks like the older brother to the C-Series tractors in my opinion. I wish it came complete with the engine and gas tank but for now she has a Kohler 16HP on her that I also had given to me just prior to picking up this old girl. The motor and tractor run beautiful, no problems or uh-oh noises with either. As far as the paint on the tractor, I think for now I'll leave her in her original patina the way I got her. I do have another quick question about the front rims. There are no grease fittings, so am I to assume that I just need to remove the rims and pack the bearings by hand with grease ? Thanks again guys for the help.
pfrederi 17,739 #18 Posted February 27, 2022 GT-14 had real tapered roller bearings...
WHMan2012 170 #19 Posted February 27, 2022 Okay, good to know. They look a lot stronger than others I've seen that's for certain.
WHMan2012 170 #20 Posted March 6, 2022 By any chance can someone send me the measurements / photos for the rear lift rod, also the piece it mounts to that bolts to the chassis in the back ? Or better yet does anyone happen to have the pieces that I'm looking for to operate the rear lift on my tractor ? Thanks Again !

Pullstart 62,867 #22 Posted March 6, 2022 Here is a link to dimensions and part of a thread where I built a lift rod for the 3 point on a GT-14. It wasn’t terrible to create, but it wasn’t the easiest.

WHMan2012 170 #24 Posted March 7, 2022 (edited) Just made this looks like it should work but won't know for sure until it's all hooked up and working. Thanks again for the help. Edited March 7, 2022 by WHMan2012 images over type
WHMan2012 170 #25 Posted April 15, 2022 Just added another GT-14 to my collection today. Missing the carb, but came with a mowing deck and sleeve hitch on the back. Looks complete and mostly original as far as I can tell at this point. I'll get more acquainted with her this weekend and post some pics.
