There's a color I use, I'll check when I get home

If you have any links to color charts or where we might find them I'd be interested

This color is close. Maybe a little "brighter" but looks good on a tractor 😉

The note on the cap bears testament to the trial and error that went into choosing this color

Some fun for tonight...

The Head Tractor Disassembler worked on cleaning up the steering tower/transmission tunnel.

She also did a bit of vacuuming and found the mysterious disappearing clip.

I did some experimenting with 2 different pullers.

To remove the inner portion of the PTO I used a pretty standard bearing puller set into the groove.

Note the WH lug bolt I threaded into the end of the crankshaft to protect the threads.

Here's the steering wheel puller I used to remove the crankshaft belt pulley.

Action pose....

Bit gunky back there but we've seen worse.

Jim and his Significant other, Patti came out to the house today and the 4 of us had a GREAT time puttering around with cleaning degreasing disassembly etc.

The transmission drain plug is mashed and rounded so I'll need to do some surgery on the when I can get it facing upright. IMG_20220305_114006511.jpg.3919e08c388dc316df55133e4ef9dbee.jpg

Jim and I did more disassembly on the transmission. Got the unit drained by removing the main feed pipe from the bottom side. Hubs are off. Wheel seals out.  Wheel bearings checked good. We sanded and de-burred the axles.

Inside of the transmission fan. Dirt level typical of the tractor.

Trina and Patti spent some time Demuckifying the engine tins.  The table works excellent.

They also worked on stripping the paint from the hood. The citrus stripper did some good but it was too cold for it to work right.

The auto body grinder will be kicked into use.

Here's Jim checking over the other 417A.

 Me keeping tabs on Redsquare...

Our friends brought the Meeha Mirror a new toy.

In other news..... it turns out this engine is quite well "worn in".

It runs well. Didn't smoke much at all that I noticed. But...

The pistons are audibly loose in the cylinders.

We'll check the other KT17 for loose-ocity at some point.

Perhaps the other tractor runs and drives even better... Who knows?

Handy Don

With this much c**p on the fan, it's a wonder to me it wasn't broken or chipped.

Rain today so it's likely we'll do some more cleaning and disassembly.

I picked up a couple of vintage KD tools recently. One is this oil filter strap wrench.

IMG_20220313_162215641_HDR.jpg.19ae074ca3ebad3001d524d353085c86.jpg

Used that to pop the filter off the transmission so it can sit and drain.

Trina used the 4-in side grinder with Scotch-Brite disc to remove most of the paint from the outside of the hood.

The Disassembly and Paint Removal Department spent some time removing rust/paint/stuff from the inside of the hood.

The Paint Department tossed a coat of Rust-Oleum 2X Satin Black on the engine sheet metal.
