Grease running out

Recommended Posts

I’m thinking this doesn’t look good so, Before I take this apart I thought I’d ask if there is anything I need to be aware of. This tractor sat for a few years before I got it last summer. I went around and greased all the zeros before running it. The other side doesn’t leak like this.

The other side may have been so lacking grease it is far from overfull. it also could have hard dried grease keeping anything from flowing out.  This side doesn't look like a terrible thing.  Since it has been setting a few years, just a basic disassemble, cleaning and fresh grease might be a good baseline to start from.

A grease gun will even do that if it hangs for a while...

I keep mine in a 5 gallon bucket with a diaper at the bottom for that exact reason!

Completely normal.  Pump grease in till new grease appears at the top and bottom to flush out the dirt.  It is best to jack up the tractor by the frame when greasing so that grease will get into the wear areas.  Some models have seals at the wheel bearings and tie rod ends, so care must be taken to not push those seals out.  A roll of paper towels is your friend.

Cold weather does funny things to grease. Does not want to move.

@JimSraj agree with @lynnmor  on the front end lift , wheels off the ground , notice your lower grease , but nothing  coming out on top ? a simple wipe down  will change that . make sure you also get the steering  " fan  " grease behind gear , pete

I keep mine in an old cut off pants leg. Old pillow case works too.

Thanks to all. BTW it’s on a Raider 12.

There is a good bit of play in the wheel, mostly front to back, not as much top to bottom. Guess I won’t know why until I take it apart to see the spindle.

Tearing it all apart is a great idea, that way you can remove ALL of the dirt and see if parts should be replaced.  With everything clean and frequent greasing, future wear will be greatly reduced.

FIRST remove leg from pant leg, THEN cut off pant leg!
