ebinmaine 68,267 #4 Posted February 20, 2022 @WHX?? Might have ideas about the hubs. Axles will need to be removed and have new grooves cut in. @Oldskool has a very particular set of skills and has had success hand cutting them. 1
kpinnc 12,376 #5 Posted February 20, 2022 Any decent machine shop can cut new keyways for both- though it may be expensive. I'd stay away from woodruff keys. Straight .250 key slots will work better on both sides.
daveoman1966 3,758 #6 Posted February 20, 2022 What dia axles / hubs? I have two like-new hubs (with 5 lug bolts) that have 2 set screws each for 1-1/8" axles. I also have 3 or 4 axles that MAY suit you tractor, but gotta know what tractor you are working on/with. The OEM part # is 105763---hubs are MINT..on ebay as item # 133941095718 and # 133941096562.
roadapples 6,983 #7 Posted February 20, 2022 You can make a brass woodruff key and weld beside it. @Ed Kennell
Rob J. 1,942 #8 Posted February 20, 2022 I just did this. Right side drive pulley was flipping around a bit. Took it apart and the keyway was shot. I just bought a used pulley that had a good keyway. Luckily the shaft was fine.
wallfish 17,079 #9 Posted February 20, 2022 Backyard hammer mechanic quick fix suggestion. No expensive machining or replacement parts. The axles and hubs are already damaged anyway so... Still leaves a way to remove them for any future service if necessary. Do 2 holes 180 deg apart if you're so inclined but I wouldn't do any new holes near the existing key location. 5
WHX?? 49,149 #10 Posted February 20, 2022 Yep new keyway in hubs no problem.... 4 3
Pullstart 63,086 #11 Posted February 20, 2022 I like @wallfish’s idea. I recently did this to a front steering arm/spindle assembly. It tightened things so well. 4
Roger R 448 #12 Posted February 21, 2022 I know it's been posted several times before, but can't hurt to repeat: PUT A WRENCH ON THOSE SET SCREWS on a regular basis to prevent problems down the road. 2
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,090 #13 Posted February 21, 2022 If you are going to use one set screw on top of the other make sure you grind the point off the second screw. If you don't what happens is the point of the second screw enters the hex hole in the first screw and it very effectively flares the first screw so tight in the threads it can never be removed again. 7
WHX?? 49,149 #14 Posted February 21, 2022 I was trying to figure out what 'Fish was suggesting but after looking what you did Kev now I get it. Hey I'm a little slow at times.... Actually a good idea John for a farmer fix. Use a grade 8 bolt?
Pullstart 63,086 #15 Posted February 21, 2022 This is assuming the axle is as walleyed out as the hub and you have nothing to lose…
seven 202 #16 Posted February 21, 2022 I do like the metal stiching idea Ive seen it done on cast iron turbines at a power plant once. But I think 💬 m leaning towards going with new keway cut in hub and hand cutting a keyway into axle.
Wild Bill 633 849 #17 Posted February 21, 2022 I recommend the hubs from A-Z Tractor with the QD bushing which is like a collet that grips the shaft. They will take 5000 lb-ins / 417 lb-ft of torque without the key. 1" diameter https://www.ebay.com/itm/265311350944?hash=item3dc5c9f0a0:g:OpwAAOSwlIxfmse0 1-18" diameter https://www.ebay.com/itm/265311349273?hash=item3dc5c9ea19:g:OpwAAOSwlIxfmse0 1

Set screws can go in beyond the edge of the hole so nothing protruding out. Those hardened set screws won't shear. But bolts work too

Using a air cut off tool with small diameter wheel I was able to cut new slot . 2
seven 202 #20 Posted February 28, 2022 I also put two new 5/16 setscrews into each hub
