JPWH 6,033 #1 Posted February 20, 2022 I want to build a subsoiler but I couldn't figure out how to make it strong enough to be useful without a top center link. I also don't want to damage the rear end. I got my inspiration from Dick's @953 nutthread with his narrow front end 953. 7 4 1
oliver2-44 9,749 #2 Posted February 20, 2022 My project 953 and I are anxious students. Are those white lower arms from a Sears 3 Point.
953 nut 55,228 #3 Posted February 20, 2022 The brace going to the top of the transmission and heavier steel tubing should do the job. As stated in my thread, the one I built was light duty and is mostly for show. Looking forward to your build.

This will not be a typical 3 point cat 0. More like a clevice to 3 point adapter. Edited February 20, 2022 by JPWH

When I was taking measurements I did not have the recess storage box installed. I went back double checking measurements and discovered I had to change that brace to 1 1/2" tubing. 1
JPWH 6,033 #6 Posted February 24, 2022 Mistake # 1 I had to cut it apart and start in another direction. I didn't have enough room for the lift to work the way I wanted. I need to go see my metal guy for the right size angle iron for the top. 2
JPWH 6,033 #7 Posted March 5, 2022 (edited) I took apart what I had and started over. Made some adjustments to get the proper clearances needed. Cleaned up.all the metal tacked everything up in place. Removed it from the transmission, then welded the main frame and installed it. Now to mark some holes and start drilling. JPWH 6,033 #8 Posted March 11, 2022 I made some progress on the hitch. I was able to check all the clearances so I could get measurements for the lifting arms.
JUSS10 250 #9 Posted March 11, 2022 Very cool! I have a thread on here somewhere of a beefy one I made for my 1054. Been using it for years. Very handy to have.

I found your thread. Round hood 3 point hitch. Very nice build.

JPWH 6,033 #13 Posted March 12, 2022 The rock shaft is built now so I can order some heim joints and make some pin bushings and center link bushings. I still need to add supports from the transmission to the hitch receiver. Then I need to break it down to finish the welding. Next step I hope is to mount it on the tractor to figure out the hydraulic linkage and lift arm linkage. 4

19richie66 17,508 #15 Posted March 12, 2022 It does make it easy to access things 1
JPWH 6,033 #16 Posted March 13, 2022 I got all the frame welded and was able to use a length of wire to test the lifting arms travel. I have about the same travel as the clevis hitch using the hydraulic cylinder travel distance. Now I can proceed with the lift linkage. Lowered position. Raised position. 3
JPWH 6,033 #17 Posted March 15, 2022 I ordered 2 of these for the upper part of the top link. 2
JPWH 6,033 #18 Posted March 19, 2022 I installed the hitch on Hank to see how it fits. 5

JPWH 6,033 #21 Posted March 19, 2022 After I made sure it fit I checked how much lift I will have. Looks like about 8". I think that will work for my needs. I removed it from the tractor and built a bracket to support it from the bottom of the transmission as well as the top and axle housing. 4
JPWH 6,033 #22 Posted March 20, 2022 I had bought a repaired rock shaft that I could modify for this project. I extended the lower part 3" so I can hook it to the 3 point lift.
Skipper 1,788 #23 Posted March 20, 2022 Do you have an arm going on top of the transmission to the frame?
JPWH 6,033 #24 Posted March 20, 2022 1 minute ago, Skipper said: Do you have an arm going on top of the transmission to the frame? I do. It will be supported at the axles, 2 bolts at the top and a bracket to the bottom where the clevis hitch attaches.
Skipper 1,788 #25 Posted March 22, 2022 Oh, sorry. I didn't put it clearly. I mean a support that goes from the upper part of the 3pt frame, and up over the trans, to connect to the frame in front of and on top of trans, in order to take some torque out of the construct. Depending on what you want to lift, it may also be overkill, but just looking at it with the engineering glasses on, I would consider it Just a suggestion
