It cost me $1,500 bucks but this type of thing in my opinion doesn’t happen often. So I grabbed it and brought it home today. peter lena 8,588 #5 Posted February 19, 2022 @sgtsampay obviousely a terrific pick up , brand new , never abused / neglected , treat that with care , and most important , regular clean up and maintenance . hope your lawn is in good shape , to help on the use of this . you might add the r/d area rubber flap to cut down on grass build up debris , hunt around for some rubber with reinforcing bonded ply for that flap . would also regularly drop the deck for inspection , and regular clean out , don't break that paint ! I dry my decks upside down in the sun , to thoroughly clean out the crud , and oil spray to stop rust . very lightly touch up blades with a fine / small file , preserves the edge . picked up a very low hour 42 r/d deck years ago , still looks and works like new . soaking in oil now over winter . good luck , pete 2 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

This might be true however, with today inflation amount; that $1,800 tractor would be worth about 8k today.. and today you can’t buy a tractor like the wheel horses unless you go into a diesel subcompact. It’s worth to me investing in these old machine with new parts because it’s still way cheaper than a 10-15k sub compact or Deere x700 series. jeepdan 321 #8 Posted February 20, 2022 (edited) Wow, what a find and a good deal! Four years ago, I ordered a new 36"RD mower deck shell, and ALL of the parts to complete it from Toro. Totally new deck, I have over $2,000 in it. "More money than brains" at the time, but now, the shell and some of the parts are NLA. It was probably a leftover, they had already ceased producing them by then, I believe. So, I was very happy to find one last summer for half that. $1,500 seems way reasonable for what you’ve gotten - quite possibly the last such unit on earth! peter lena 8,588 #10 Posted February 20, 2022 @sgtsampay been doing this for years , when I first started to look at deck issues , the underside and correct lubrication were the obvious problems . since doing this , there is zero rust and build up , and no noisy whining bearings . my decks are upside down now , with oil soak , over winter , lucas hi temp grease in all spindles , added belt idler pulley , ready for spring , none of this is in THE BOOK , for upkeep detailing , but it definitely saves your deck , keep it greasy , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
