Hour Meter Anyone ?

Recommended Posts

Horse Newbie

I am refreshing my 1984 Work Horse GT-1600. It does not have an hour meter and I would like to add one.

I want to get a small one that sticks on the tractor dash with two sided tape.

I plan to wire it like this diagram shows.

Problem is I have not been able to find one, except for some that are “induction “ powered.

Do any of you have any recommendations for a small 12 v one you have ?

No need to be afraid of the induction powered ones. No you can't change the battery on them but I've had one on my walk behind snow blower for over 6 years & it works great. Plus it only records the time when the engine is running, no need to worry about it adding time because the key was left on.

This is the one that I have on my blower.

This one includes a Tach, maintenance reminder, & a few other toys. This one does have a replaceable battery

This one is a small 12v model, but it would require cutting a hole some place or building a bracket to hold it. Maybe make some thing to mount it under the hood?

@Newbie I've seen pictures of the permanent mount ones mounted in the lower side panel of the hood stand,.  Below the PTO lever if I remember correctly. Looked good!

The B&S induction one I bought and put on my JD GT235 lasted about 5 years  I would have preferred one that lasted as long as the tractor....

I wanted one that more or less matched the ammeter.  I'm happy with this so far:

Or the ignition switch takes a dump and leaves the accessory circuit on and racks up 786 hours...

I really like that one. For the classic look, and it would also match the ammeter on the Work Horse…

if I could just get past cutting a hole in the dash.

That look is making me lean towards it though… it would be no different than if Wheel Horse had offered it as an option…

@Horse Newbie That's what I like about it but I can't find a hand kind of RPM gauge they're only digital so that's why I was thinking about Hardline.

Nice thing about the C-1X5 is that cutting a hole is easy-peasy.  The metal back plate already  has the hole, the plastic front plate has a ring around where the optional gauge would go.

This is the 125 --- no meter yet.

And the 175 - with 786 + hours on it!!!  because of that stupid keyswitch!

I have a lot of those hour meters that a friend of mine gave me from removal from Toro lawn equipment. All have some time on them, most very minimal. Free for any member if you pay postage. Only a couple of the Toro, Lots of the others with two types of face plates, bezels, mounting housing. Some are straight blade out back, some are right angle. PM me.
