Has any wheel horse ever came with a locking rear differential, or has anybody ever fitted one

They had a limited slip, but not true locking.  A chap over in the UK, @meadowfield has fashioned a couple different styles of locker.  One took up the innards of a transmission, one became an external unit that I don’t know if it was completed?  Both ingenious creations.

they can be converted to be a full diff lock either trough welding or flipping certain gears in the diff.

Not recommended, puts a lot of stress on the transmission

@John c  The answer to your question is no.  Wheel Horse did not come with any locking differential.

@John c, are you planning to do some pulling or just looking for added traction?  Liquid filled rear tires will give you a lot of added traction.

not anything like competition pulling, just would like better traction for daily use, lots of hills and off camber terrain around my place. I can usually just shift my weight around to make do, but I'm limited to how much I can load in the trailer if I'm having to pull uphill. Don't really want to switch to Ag tires because it's also used on turf.  I remember the old 2810 ford my FIL had back in the day, it had a heel lever to lock it up, something like that would be useful.

But now as I sit here and type this out, it dawns on me with what I'm doing it's probably best it does slip, I almost flipped that ford when I had a big drag disc hung up in deep compost pile.

@John c  It sounds like you are between a rock and a hard place as far as options.  One option would be a 2nd horse dedicated to the trails.  2nd option, I wonder if rubber tire chains might work for you...more traction with out tearing up the property??  :eusa-think:

If you flip the diff gears you in effect lock the diff. Of course that requires opening a transmission, and it only works with the 8 pinion diff.

...and it is NOT designed to be used that way. I can't help but think that the diff provides one wheel to slip so that nothing breaks when in a bind.

FYI Ag's don't tear up the lawn nearly as much as you think. Turf's will more than Ag's, because they spin from lack of traction.
