Achto 27,489 #101 Posted February 25, 2022 (edited) More progress. Did some tin knocking and welding up the excess holes. Have the sheet metal strait enough to be blasted & then it will need some final body work. All of the spot welds holding the fender mount and the pan together had broken loose and a PO had bolted them two together. I drilled the pan full of holes in preparation to weld the parts back together. Tranny cases have been stripped and an extra drain port added so that you don't have to stand the tractor on end to drain all the fluid out. Then I sprayed some self etching primer to preserve them until assembled. Will paint the tranny case after it is assembled. End of the steering shaft was badly worn. I filled the worn area with weld and then ground everything smooth. Used a 3/4 bushing as a guide to ensure that I had the diameter correct. Knocked the rivets out of the two idle pulleys so that I can change the bearings in them. Tie rods were of course worn. I will be putting replaceable ends on so I marked the original tie rods to be cut & turned down for the new ends. Everything is measured so the the tie rods will come out just a little short, this leaves room for full adjustments. This pic shows them close to finished. I was shooting for 5 or 6 weeks, only working on it on the weekends. Don't look like that it will work out though. Ordered my rebuild kit the Monday after I took the tractor apart. Achto 27,489 #112 Posted March 4, 2022 (edited) Moving along a little bit. Carburetor and fuel pump cleaned up and rebuilt then both were sealed in ziploc bags until they are installed. Dash panel is sprayed with my rendition of a brushed aluminum finish. I spray the dash with Duplicolor silver wheel paint. When it dries I use Scotchbrite to make machine brush stokes in the paint, taking care so that the scratches only go one direction. Then I use Duplicolor wheel clear to gloss it up. All ready for Terry's 3 piece dash decal set. With any luck I will be blowing some red paint around this weekend. You have those looking good, but you should have gone with heims joints.. Did my C-120 with heims joints 33 years ago and they are still tight. It was my main mower until two years ago. Achto 27,489 #118 Posted March 6, 2022 (edited) Started out my day by spraying a little paint. I chose to spray white today so that I had time to put my tranny back together. This way the tranny could get sprayed red tomorrow. @WHX?? caught wind that today was the day to put the tranny together so he was nice enough to stop by & lend a hand. Much appreciated too, specially when it came time to put the detent balls in, always nice to have an extra set of hands for that. Thanks for all your help today Jim!!! WHX?? 48,721 #119 Posted March 6, 2022 (edited) Yah but you neglected to tell the boys how we maimed TWO axle seals. I know now what I did then we put a champer on the lead in's on the cases. Just a bit with a hand file before bearings are seated. We really didn't have the right tool for the job but you under ther orchard tree guys know what I'm sayin. On the good side input seal went in with fingers .. one which I always screw up at least two or five times. Dan likes the input seals that Lowell has which are much easier to install than the SKF metal rimmed ones. We shoulda got a pic to explain why. BTW call me Dan ' fore you order more seals. Hung the wind chimes that @kpinnc was waiting for & sprayed a fresh coat of red paint on the garage floor today, even managed to get a little paint on my parts. Jim I found another axel seal in my double secret stash ( it was even a secret to me ) After spraying paint I had time left in the day to sand blast my parts that would not fit in the blast cabinet.
