TJ5208 1,824 #1 Posted February 11, 2022 So what is better ags or chains I mean like for pulling. With mud turf dirt all that. I'm thinking about my 520 running chains all year round.
Ed Kennell 40,520 #2 Posted February 11, 2022 (edited) For me, the two link Vee Bar chains on turf tires work best on packed or loose snow, ice, mud, grass, and gravel. Basiccly any surface they can penetrate to get a bite. On my steep paved driveway, the rubber chains on turfs work best. Steel has poor traction on a smooth hard paved surface. Just my experience. I have never used them, but I hear the X type cross chains are very good and ride better than the = cross chains. Maxwell-8 4,366 #3 Posted February 11, 2022 We have pavement and mud, I think the only two areas where AG's will be better then chains
DougC 2,642 #4 Posted February 11, 2022 Iowa gets ice and then snow and normally high wind forming large drifts. I use a 520H with turf tires and rear tire chains and an Original Snow Cab to stay warm and cozy. I just moved 14.5 inches of snow last snow event without any problems. Just my 2 cents. 1

pfrederi 18,339 #6 Posted February 11, 2022 I have 3 big tractors with AGs. One has 150lbs weight on each side and filled with rim guard another has 600lbs of weights neither is allowed outside once the ground freezes hard with out chains. AGs are great in mud and soft ground on ice darn near worthless and forget about backing up. Even my little L-107 Lawn ranger runs ags spring summer and fall but once the ground freezes turfs and chains.

In NC I doubt your ground freezes really hard for extended periods so in that case Ags would be a good choice..

Usually cold one week, warm the next. No reason to bother with a tractor LOL. Only exception are the mountains of NC. They get oodles of snow and long periods of colder weather.

Rusty Tinsnips 477 #15 Posted February 18, 2022 These worked really good a few days ago and again today with no slipping. The ride is terrible but I like the way they look.
