oldlineman 1,482 #29 Posted February 10, 2022 Your brake lining is wore down to the metal on the front side of the band. Can see clearly in the pictures PM rmaynard and get a new lining, that will fix it. Bob

roadapples 6,983 #31 Posted February 10, 2022 Brake lining is probably original. May be oil soaked. You need a new one....
WHX?? 49,149 #32 Posted February 10, 2022 TJ While yer in there take the brake hub off and clean it and the immediate area. Mineral spirits on a rag work good.
TJ5208 1,824 #33 Posted February 11, 2022 (edited) So what is the difference in @rmaynard brake bands and the stock bands. No offense Bob but just didn't know if they stoped you faster or the advantage. Because my neighbor has a 416-8 I could buy the band off of. I had thought about doing what @Achto told me about using the nut for extra space until I can buy me one. Edited February 11, 2022 by TJ Salyers

The used brake band may be oil soaked making it not perform as well as a new band, and it is probably worn down already. If you buy a new band it will be new.
rmaynard 15,590 #35 Posted February 11, 2022 My brake LINING is NOT the whole brake band, but just the friction material. Brake bands rarely go bad, just the lining. 2
