TJ5208 1,824 #1 Posted February 10, 2022 (edited) Ok guys when I went to pick this tractor up it had no brake well I tightened the brake band down still making no difference just rolls. I tightened the nut on the brake band it seemed to help a little. Now the brake band is dragging. What do I need to tighten? Or is the brake band or drum wore out? I tried to push the tractor no skidding. Just rolling. And the nut on the brake band is at the end of threads won't tighten no more Edited February 10, 2022 by TJ Salyers
Achto 27,751 #2 Posted February 10, 2022 Is there any pad left on the brake band? Can you get a picture from the side?

Achto 27,751 #5 Posted February 10, 2022 Looks like there is pad yet. Set the parking brake and try pushing the tractor. Watch the brake hub and see if it is tuning. If it's not turning but the tractor moves, then you may have a sheared key on the brake hub.

Achto 27,751 #12 Posted February 10, 2022 Seems to be operating correctly. The pad may be warn down too far for the stock adjustments. Remove the adjustment nut and place a larger nut on that will slide over the rod. Put the original adjuster nut on and adjust it again. The larger nut will just be there to take up some space.
TJ5208 1,824 #13 Posted February 10, 2022 Could I leave that nut there if it stopped the tractor. I don't think I could or should just gonna listen to you guys.
953 nut 55,756 #14 Posted February 10, 2022 Get a new brake lining from Bob, they work a lot better than the ones that came with the tractor. @rmay 5

The original nut will not thread on any further. Right? Put a larger nut in front of it as a spacer.
TJ5208 1,824 #17 Posted February 10, 2022 My neighbor has a part 416-8 so I guess I'll see if I can get the brake band off that and see if it works.

Just know that some where down the line you will want to get a new brake lining. It's a temporary fix that will buy you a lot of time.

If it's hydro and you are not returning to the neutral position, it won't stop. Manual is different.
