Horse of a Different Kohler ??

Recommended Posts

ri702bill

Did Wheel Horse ever produce a tractor with a Kohler K161-T pull start engine ?? I realize there were Wisconsin, Lauson and Tecumseh yank start engines - never saw one with a 7 HP Kohler like that.

Maybe Gary or @squonk or other may offer some info. Thanks

Bill

I believe the late 1960's commando 7's had that engine

I think the "T " was for tillers. WH 704'S had K161 rope start.

Thanks guys - I forgot about the 704 ..... "S" was for electric start, "T" was rope recoil start.

Interesting...  I'm not very familiar with the Commando line, but I don't see a Commando 7 in the list I posted a few minutes ago.  Is this maybe a European model?

yup, Belgium built 1968 and 1969 only

relatively common here, for sure the most common 60's model (I come across them twice a year)

Well, I've got this nice 7HP K161T sitting around and I've got this 502 roller ....

Here's one - why wasn't the 702 called the 752?? seems more accurate - they had the 502 and the 552 that year......

I don’t know why… maybe it’s my right shoulder asking for more things to do… but I’ve had a hankering for a B60 for quite some time.

I'd don't think you'll be happy until you have at least one of every model.  :ychain:  maybe even 2or 3  :teasing-poke:

And as much as I appreciate the technology, some of the newer ones with lights and gizmos and whatnot.  Even though there are a couple in the herd that fit that bill.

I had a 200 series 1990 210-H. Had it for 20 yrs. Replaced the seat, tie rod end and a fuse. Plowed snow and modified a Simplicity snow blower to work on it. No complaints. Great Mower!

701 also falls in this category as well. There were a few discrepancy's in the normal 60's model numbers. 1045 = 1055 with '64 rear fenders. 633 = 653 with a Kohler instead of a Tecumseh.

I never understood why WH didn't just put recoils on everything. Makes things simpler. Not saying eliminate electric start, but as a backup.

How many times has a dead battery ruined your plans? I guess it's easier to manage a single machine. I wouldn't know... But I am definitely adding them where I can.

Well without a good battery I believe they would not have spark. Would have to have a magneto to use a pull start, I believe. Bob

I think 8-10 volts will be enought to make a spark, but it won't turn the engine over.

If your charging system is good, but the battery is headed south- a recoil starter will at least allow the tractor to be used a couple more times before replacement of the battery.

Most of us have several tractors so it isn't as big of a deal as back in the day when most had just one.
