Sunrise or Sunset

Handy Don

Camped in the snow often in my Scouting days in rural NE PA and enjoyed it. We had good leaders who helped us learn how to prepare and stay safe, well fed, and comfortable. Our troop was known in the council as "those guys who camp anywhere any time." One key was to have activities planned so that we weren't just sitting around staring at a fire!

I remember one of our Troop 35 Winter Camporees at Camp Tuckahoe when the temp dipped to zero and the NW wind was howling.   The tents were pitched on 6" of packed snow.

We were all doing the rotation dance around the fire trying to keep warm.

I finally caved in and took the boys to town to watch a movie.

The friend that goes camping with us up in the great North main woods. I asked her one time, what was the coldest camping she's ever done.

She doesn't carry a thermometer but lives and works outdoors and is a pretty good judge of things in general.

She did a winter camping trip with one or two overnights a few years ago and she's quite sure it was below zero the entire time.

That's just brisk.

Under the shed roof is Trina's 867 go-to worker Pigpen and as she called it yesterday, "Newbie". An 857 we recently bought from @AHS at his much appreciated first offer.

It has been a year and 1 month since I started this thread. On page 1 looking  west down the driveway is before we had 35, 85' tall pine trees removed in the yard  to allow the sun to help melt the ice and snow on the driveway. First pic here is before the tree removal and second pic is after tree work. This recent picture is how it looks now and has made a huge difference with melting and also walking and driving in and out of the yard. Sunsets are different as well. Snow piles this year from the Loader were at 8' tall as of this last storm. Quite a Winter here thus far.
