oldlineman 1,481 #27 Posted February 12, 2022 Prayer is good but the Bible that I read says that it will get worse and we need to be ready. Bob
ebinmaine 67,496 #28 Posted February 12, 2022 There are many different philosophies around the globe including non-denominational, like myself. No matter what yours is, it's up to each individual to be prepared and prepare the next generation for the future. @WHGuy413 and many of the rest of you are doing great work in that direction.
WHGuy413 2,683 #29 Posted February 12, 2022 Well to get us back on topic. I took the boys ice fishing today and now that we are home (just to run out the door for spring pitching clinic for baseball) Alex is already after me to work on Archie. Waiting to hear from Wayne he found some front tires and rims for him so we may venture out and grab them. Hoping he can use it tomorrow to bring in some fire wood when the ground hardens back up. 3
WHGuy413 2,683 #30 Posted February 13, 2022 Well here he is. Happy as can be. It runs like a champ and sounds great. The starter generator whines bad but I’m sure that can be remedied. He’s already been out bombing around, drove it to my parents to show it off and then brought in a load of fire wood with it. He said this might be his favorite out of the 3 tractors he owns. Alex also said thanks for all the support. He has been poking around on this page on my phone a little bit and seen your comments. 2
ebinmaine 67,496 #31 Posted February 13, 2022 Excellent. Matt, toss a couple bearings in that S/G and it'll likely be good to go.

I've done a couple S/G cleanups and several Bendix type starters. Just last week I did 2 later ones, in fact. There's good info for the searching. Really nothing at all to them.

Retired Wrencher 5,455 #35 Posted February 18, 2022 Matt glade to see you are starting him young. Nice Commando?
WHGuy413 2,683 #36 Posted February 23, 2022 After I picked up the kids Alex went straight to the garage. He knew that the starter generator parts showed up before he left for the weekend at his moms. So with the help of my friend kyle the 3 of us tackled new bearings and brushes. We struggled getting the bearing off the end with the brushes but finally did. When Alex reinstalled it he started it up and it’s super quiet just the way it should be. Which is perfect cause now we can hear that one sound that I’m sure we all love. A Kohler k series running like a champ. Tomorrow he’s going to drop the plow Off 1077 (old Smokey) and put it on the commando (Archie). I was hoping we were done with snow for the year but I guess not more coming Friday and he’s home to plow. 3 5

I will make sure to get some action shots. He’s pretty bummed that we may not be making a big fishing ice fishing trip we had planned. Plowing snow should help pick him up.
WHGuy413 2,683 #40 Posted February 25, 2022 Here are some action shots. Thankful for this kid. I ended up sick from my Covid booster and he tackled the driveway 95% by himself once he got home. He has some more to do tomorrow but for tonight the driveway is done. 2

I don’t get a lot of seat time in general. Most of the summer my kids tackled mowing. I need to get mowers on more tractors so they stop Arguing about who’s gonna mow 😂. I’m pretty lucky to have kids like mine. As long as I get to work on the tractors with them I’m happy. 1
peter lena 8,627 #44 Posted February 26, 2022 @WHGuy413 nice going on the early involvement , take advantage of running around / road time do that before a rear end drain and flush . I thoroughly warm up that gear box before the drain . and afterword with a atf fluid or fuel oil drive around and drain out the crud , before fresh 80-90 gear oil . super lube the face of that plow , with the aerosol , or snow jet , for near instant snow removal. pete

When they move out of the house you'll miss both the mowing/blowing assist and the company (probably not the arguing). 3

Thanks. It’s been fun with him in the garage so much. I do believe that the commando has taken the top spot in his collection. As for the patina he wants to keep just the way it is. We are definitely open to suggestions on how to preserve its looks. Edited February 26, 2022 by WHGuy413

No doubt! The boys can be best friends one minute and 2 seconds later worst enemies. Thankfully they are best friends the majority of the time.

peter lena 8,627 #50 Posted February 26, 2022 @WHGuy413 , personal choice , would be a spray down with lubriplate chain and cable lubricant . let it soak in ,if you do wipe that down , use a clean cloth with more lubricant on it. that metal is now trapped in what it was , with an oil beading finish on it . like a kerosene finish . can't wait to hear the backlash , keep it oily , pete
