TJ5208 1,824 #102 Posted February 8, 2022 Here's my progress is gas supposed to look blue and that piece in the bottom where the petcock is that supposed to be bent. the fuel lines I've took off the tractor none of them are blocked so it may be the carburetor I'm going to try to put another IV gas tank on it tomorrow as @Achto calls it. Seafoam is clear so it cant be that.

A second gen Dodge. but we put gas in the tractor not sure about the previous owner according to the manual if you don't keep your gas tank full it'll gather moisture and it was about empty when I picked it up. It has Sea Foam in it I'm not sure that's going to make a difference. Edited February 8, 2022 by TJ Salyers

Dip a rag in it...gas won't feel oily and it will evaporate..diesel doesn't evaporate. Also diesel and gas smell very different. Diesel in the fuel will make them smoke, rattle and want choke

TJ5208 1,824 #108 Posted February 8, 2022 Well I dipped a rag in it very oily can't tell what it smells like right now but It does smell like both gas and diesel I'll have a very definite answer tommorow.

You would need an alarming concentration of seafoam to gas but yes, being primarily pale oil and naphtha it could...it would need to be thick with seafoam though
TJ5208 1,824 #111 Posted February 8, 2022 I'm going to drain the tank change the fuel lines and rebuild the carburetor. 1
TJ5208 1,824 #112 Posted February 8, 2022 Could alout of Sea Foam cause it not to run?
RED-Z06 2,221 #113 Posted February 8, 2022 13 minutes ago, TJ Salyers said: Could alout of Sea Foam cause it not to run? It would be similar to trying to run on fuel oil blended gas, its heavier, different flash point, not as refined. I ran a 17hp briggs on increasingly higher concentrations of diesel mixed gas and there came a point around 20% diesel that it ran poorly and i saw smoke, at around 40% it was needing choke, no idle, hard to start, alot of smoke..no idle hardly, engine sounded like it was detonating. Proper use of seafoam is only like 1oz per gallon.
RED-Z06 2,221 #114 Posted February 8, 2022 That tractor is what...4.5gallons full, so a half tank would take..2 to 2.5 ounces of seafoam
Jeff-C175 7,202 #115 Posted February 8, 2022 My 2 stroke oil is blue and turns the fuel blue when mixed. Do you have 2 stroke pre-mixed that might have gotten poured in there?

If it were my tractor, I would remove the fuel tank and the petcock and flush it right, then replace the petcock bushing and the petcock if necessary. Before reinstalling the fuel tank, clean ALL that debris from the area, remove the rust and paint as required.

Seems it was running, try the easy stuff first. Drain the tank, change the fuel lines, put fresh gas in it and try running it. If it does not run well after a short time, then pull the carb and clean it. Edited February 8, 2022 by Achto 1

TJ5208 1,824 #120 Posted February 8, 2022 (edited) Here's the fuel that came out of it. Still have to get the rest of the fuel tank cleaned out. Edited February 8, 2022 by TJ Salyers

kpinnc 12,083 #123 Posted February 8, 2022 Looks like ethanol fuel after some tank condensation. And you should always try to use non-ethanol fuel in anything with a carburetor.
RED-Z06 2,221 #124 Posted February 8, 2022 Looks like cold oily gas and water, possibly also gelled? Possibly the seafoam gelled also?
Achto 27,601 #125 Posted February 8, 2022 (edited) I'm guessing that you had some water in the gas. I believe that what you have there is Seafoam & water mixture. Always try to get ethanol free gas (premium gas is usually ethanol free in my area) when you can. It's more expensive but will save you on repairs in the long run. I still recommend adding 1oz of Seafoam per gallon of gas. Edited February 8, 2022 by Achto
