Have we covered exactly what all was replaced, what the symptoms were prior?

No symptoms prior... running fine. Just routine maintenance. Plugs, filters, etc...

Id start putting old parts back on one at a time...start with the air filter, plugs...not the fuel filter unless you know for certain how it came off.

Some trash could have gotten dislodged during the fuel filter change.

Maybe the filter was blocked and it was tuned to run on a plugged filter, now its lean?

That would require more fuel... so... now it would be rich... wanting more air, not less. :confusion-confused:

I tell you what buddy, the fuel filter he got is pretty big...

Highly possible. Especially on those old fuel lines. Definitely something to note.

MONEY @RED-Z06 :music-rockout:

He stated it will only run choked, so its wanting more fuel.  If it was tuned on a plugged filter they would have reduced fuel trim to compensate, but now it's less restricted and wants more fuel...the choke provides that.

Have to agree with @Redzz02 in that I have never heard of, or experienced a 'too big a filter'. But indications are definitely pointing to a fuel problem what with black/dk gray smoke.

Did he show the filter in a previous post?

Little large... in my opinion. Can't really see the fuel running through it either... :crying-yellow:

I just thought of something else... might be a bad fuel line... maybe got a cut in it... or something to that effect... which happens all the time when you change filters on those old fuel lines.

But that would take us back to LESS fuel, and we are dealing with to much fuel.....

Only because he is running on partial choke though...

Whenever an Onan acts a fool i pop off the filter and use my hand to manually choke the engine for a instant...this puts a high vacuum on both jets, flushes the fuel orifices, and puts a heavy draw on the fuel system...usually clears them up.

Are those different than other filters...  :confusion-confused: ...I affirm so in my experience... although... maybe out of context in this case... :dunno:

This is why I use the blue clear fuel line. You can see what's happening....

Kohler specs a 15 micron filter for carbed engines and 10 micron for EFI engines, briggs red filters are like 150 micron, briggs paper filters around 51 micron.

But, fuel flows freely through a 10 micron filter with virtually no impedence, delivery rate on an Onan, while high could be satisfied with a fast drip of fuel flow up until you really load it down.

I wish the stuff held up better to UV rays.. i put some on my 416 and the section between the pump and firewall was like blown glass in 2 years.

Looking at the fuel filter actually on the tractor, it is smaller than it initially looked to me. A couple of years ago, I had a similar issue with a napa filter (designed for tractor) that I put on one of my machines. I tried using it since I needed the machine back online immediately. However, it was WAY too big. AND... thus why I am a bit wary of fuel filters. I put a smaller filter on my machine, and it ran like nothing ever happened.

Looking at the filter on TJ's machine somewhat leads me to believe it may be something deeper, like @RED-Z06 has mentioned here. Maybe some gunk flaked off and got into the carb...

I would definitely examine all fuel lines!!!

I've used them a few times and never gave it a thought.

OK, I'm gonna just come out and say it ---- I predict its gonna turn out to be a float/needle/seat problem ;) :handgestures-fingerscrossed:
