She won't stop until she does the complete house. Eric's no help at all so it's going to take a while. I just read this aloud to Trina and she burst right out laughing! Great post. To be honest we chose to do the kitchen today because it's been snowing and raining yesterday and today and we can't work on Colossus because we have painting to get done. Funny you'd mention that bucket of paint. Every wall has been done and every ceiling has been done except the one in the bedroom. I have to say the following.Not being sexist if that is the correct term but where 99% of women would be nagging their other half for some project to be done and COMPLETED, my half being probably on the very top of that list, ( the COMPLETED part is a problem),Trina just comes up with an idea ( and good ones at that) and gets to work on her own. I have nothing but admiration for her initiative and enthusiasm with which she tackles everything. I am really at a loss for words as to exactly describe how much I do admire her. I used to have a next door neighbor Judy that was exactly like that. That woman would split wood , mix cement, carry boulders, sand and refinish the floors,etc,etc... All of that always with a great attitude and disposition. I used to kid around with her husband all the time in our frequent gatherings and tell them that if things in the future did not work out between them to let me know and I was sure we could come up with some arrangement with Judy. A polyurethane finish will be a film that will be breached when cut on. Bacteria will penetrate that and stay under finish. If non food grade that breaching and therefor particles of it will also contaminate food faster that just the contact. There are finishes and methods to seal it for that purpose. They are all based on mineral oils . Spoke to the Head Chef about the coating. She's never been able to use this area before and ALWAYS uses a cutting board. She'll keep doing so in this new block surface as well. Trina says thank for the compliments earlier and also for the info on the proper cutting board surface prep. Here's the board after 6 coats of poly with machine sanding to start, hand sanding for most of it. And as it sets in it's proper place. I need to finish the connection on the stove. Hot soapy washes are good. Then apply a generous amount of white vinegar. Let that on it for about two minutes and wipe clean. ebinmaine 67,592 #49 Posted February 6, 2022 We spent some time this morning moving the gas pipe over one floor joist. Did the soapy water bubble test. All good. Test cookery was done for brunch. Here's the final setup. The butcher block top was offline about 3/32". Bothered me about 0% but the female person needed to fix that. Trina took the butcher block section off and clamped both pieces to the work bench and sanded them even. Recoated the edge with poly. She also built and installed a shelf above the stove. We both have a serious liking for wood that has a lot of character. Knots, rough sawn edges, tree centers showing grain, and especially bark edges. In the pile of wood stuff we got from a friend Trina found a hunk of red oak with a bark edge as seen below. She drilled and screwed that to a 2 x 4 and screwed the assembly to the wall studs. Remember when houses had wall phone jacks??? @Oldskool Mike sent us the horse shoe near the top of the wall. The Paint Department cleaned it up a bit and sprayed it a bronze color.
