The rest of that is a mystery. I think part of it is a mess from me getting the charging system working and part of it pre-dates me messing with it. Everything currently works, so it's tempting to just get the ignition to shut off the engine properly and eliminate that switch and just neaten that up as best as I can and secure it somehow. I'm fearful I'm going to cause a "have to start over" scenario if I dig too deep there which would be different if everything was all original parts and not decades of winging it. peter lena 8,720 #28 Posted February 3, 2022 @BrianX128 , referring to that wiring picture , partial answer is staring at you , I use these to easily go to solid wiring ,https://www.harborfreight.com/18-inch-low-voltage-multi-colored-test-leads-66717.html? . make sense ? that way you might even pick up function from a different start point , rather than diving into the mess. another thing I do on rewire is eliminate / change original set up , WIRE WRAP , every run, install wire hangers , eliminate tight chafing bends , ( is this making sense ? ) replace plug in areas with new OREGON wire connections , dielectric grease , test as you go to verify operation at every hook up . those alligator clips are very handy , they are all over the net . also tye your electrical grounding, into the battery bolt ground cable point . and extend from there , to any , needed connection , like rectifier , and headlights , only a suggestion , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

peter lena 8,720 #33 Posted February 4, 2022 @Southern_Secret those pulley issues are a common thing , typically on a problem , I really look at intended function, those tiny bearings , don,t help, look at every aspect , from spring pull tension to a washer enhanced fit , obviousely make the rust run out with lubricant. linkage rust and a loose end fit also don,t help function. linkage should work seamlessly ,engagement should be easy , really easy to fix. all my linkages are washed up and lubed , been installing heim joint ends for years , to correct chronic issues. never had one fail . my mule pulleys used to whiningly howl , the 3 that i have are silent now, lucas grease change out . just look at what you can improve . btw, keep it greasy , pete Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
