Kohler K301S

Recommended Posts

Kenneth R Cluley

Did a reverse back to points and battery ignition on my K310. Just had to secure the parts and remove plug from hole with small screw. My trigger was bad and section of stator that provides power for ignition had intermittent operation. Was a lot easier to troubleshoot and cheaper than trigger. About $35.00 for used parts. and pretty simple install. My 2cents if it works now why fix it! The Brian Miller site has some excellent test and troubleshooting for this system.

@Aldon started a thread that has a wealth of good information in it. He went the conventional battery ignition route but others chimed in with ideas they have used.

This page has some info on mounting, is this where you were?

That's it. Seems pretty simple.

I just want to make sure there is a fix. I hope it runs as-is for many more years!

@Mickwhitt  refer this to you as i did @Redav72  for a very good fuel check valve spot , also add this source ,https://www.amazon.com/EVIL-ENERGY-Return-Petrol-Aluminium/dp/B07ZB42CGT  for reference , tried it on 1 horse , now have it on all 3 , a lot of my feed back , is what I  have done to make things reliable . typically go overboard on a cure , to make it bombproof , thats how i like my stuff ,  that check valve spot is staring you in the face , why not , stop that fuel drain back ?  pete

Kind of wrapping this thread up.  I found a video from the isavetractor guy on converting to points, seems pretty simple.  I'll keep that in my back pocket and just keep taking care of the engine as is and flip over when needed.

I don't think that the condensor on the tin screw into the head is the best place.

HEAT is one of the biggest enemies of capacitors.

There's too much heat at that location.

The best place is where Kohler mounted them, on one of the coil mounting bolts.

Not too sure about dropping the hole plug into the engine either.

Did I miss something regarding the keyswitch wiring?
