Handy Don

I love all the extra cool fabrication.

I must have missed this earlier in the thread, but doesn’t driving the brake shaft directly circumvent all the internal gearing for 1,2,3, & R? I thought the brake shaft on the 3-speeds directly drives the differential bull gear. So I’m thinking you don’t have a way to back up?

You are very correct.  I am however spinning the brake shaft something like 600 rpm, instead of the input pulley 14,000 rpm.  The bearings will thank me, and it pushes backwards quite well.  Many less super fast spinning components, and the feet per minute calculations are slower than the alternative.

So you’ll just leave the shifter in neutral to be sure the other trans gears are disengaged (or did you go in and remove them)?

They will be removed.  For this first test run?  They’ll be in there, in neutral.

Turn the skis and hit the throttle (WFO) to spin it around and face the opposite direction

Plus I'm guess'n Kevin is more of a straight ahead go fast type anyway. Doubt there would be much backing up.

We’ll find out soon enough how I’ll turn it around!

Keyway cut in cross shaft, pulleys all mounted, need one tensioner, finish welding, some guards of types, and fire it up.

Need to do some welding, but the last tensioner is built.

The first tensioner isn’t an ideal orientation, but it works still.

I just can’t get it to fire right now, or I’d be able to see it move things.

Oh the anticipation! Engine sounds pretty good

You're gonna like the difference with that variable driven pulley set up. Smooth take off and acceleration.

It has always idled way too high.  Last night it fired off around 3500+ rpm like normal.  I took apart that throttle extension if you recall the kit.  It was holding the throttle open a good 1/2” too far.  I found a video on synching the carbs with various size drill bits, so I modified that extension, adjusted the carbs and finally after a year got it to idle!  With the tires on the ground, it idles “in neutral” and doesn’t creep a bit.  This morning, test drive!

I get jamming, then updates get jumbled.  First time ever cutting a keyway.  I had to find the feed and speed that the cutter liked.  I ran a depth of .130”, then did a clean up pass at .140” depth.

Things aren’t as fun when you have to push your toys.  The last drive pulley is just slipping the belt.  :hide:

@PullstartFYI, 2 strokes need very good compression. I think the reason the engine will not start on the first pull is compression. Most likely needs refurbished cylinder walls, pistons and rings.
