Lots of little braces to go, but the Snowmotractor is sitting, on it’s own weightbearings, with support to the trailing arms.  I’m calling this a small victory!  @Handy Don the frame is 1/4” thick 2” angle iron and the F plate is 3/8” thick FYI.  Because of some frame modifications done, I’ve made the choice to not have this alterable back to stock front end components.  For that reason, I’ve done some welding to the frame today.

Hey Kevin,

I have been thinking about your design the last couple of days... (call me nuts, but I made some drawings... trying to think about what could break on your project).

What I am wondering... is if you can brace the frame further to reinforce.

Maybe a steel bar going across to the frame on the other side... or at an angle...

It just seems like an open square frame like that is vulnerable.

Maybe @8ntruck might give some advice here as well?

I am just for-seeing some potential bending motion at this joint... that I am a little wary of.

I’m nowhere’s close to done @Snoopy11 :handgestures-thumbupright:  On your first sketch, remember the yellow line would need to pivot at the frame (not even centerline of the 1” tubing in fact) in order for the suspension to move freely.  Think of Ford F-150 trailing arms on the twin I beam fronts.  The front will move in a somewhat circular motion.

I’m working on this currently.  I’ll also be triangulating from the trailing  arm mount up to the frame too.

Driver’s side is done too.  I had to put a few bends in the .170” wall tubing to clear the exhaust.

Now I need to drill my holes to mount them up front, build vertical supports and take the front end back off for final welding underneath.

THEN a steering support

Ear buds in while you are welding??? :confusion-confused:

I always have my earbuds in while I weld. Somehow... music... helps me concentrate... :dunno:

Hat on backwards, earbuds in, helmet on...

Steering support is cut.  Now to pull an engine just to weld it in…

It was tough getting the steel clean.  I reverted to a needle scaler.  All things considered, it’s a pretty clean weld.  I’ll get the support bolted in and begin final assembly!  I think!

I think I have that part covered with a 5,700 watt PA system in the garage!

Bad news…

the through holes on the driver’s side engine mounts get covered by the front subframe.  I need to pop it back apart just to bolt the engine down.

Looks like that steering is good and tight.

As far as the holes getting covered. Well there is always something isn't there.

It's looking great.!!

I know it isn't time yet, but after watching the video it needs some blue somewhere on the front to tie in with that seat. Plenty of red and white.

Again....Great project!!

yeah, I told myself to pop the engine back on, but I wanted to get it back on the ground.  Oops.

paint?  What’s that?    I’ll probably get the whole thing running now and wait for paint when the snow’s gone.
