Snowthrower sprocket

Recommended Posts

Craiggy

I have an older 310-8 with a snowthrower attachment.  One of the auger gears for the drive chain has worn down to the point  where the gear teeth are more like  nubs.  I have tried but can't fine the sprocket anywhere.  Hopefully somebody can help.  Thanks.

I've got one a few years back at tractor supply, wasn't exactly the same but very close and it works well.

Tsc sprockets have one more tooth than OEM. I had to add a half link to get the chain to work. Before you do anything, what's your auger sprocket like?

Is it the auger sprocket on a single stage or the idler sprockets inside the blower or the drive sprocket behind the blower housing? The more information you can provide the better internet diagnosis you will receive. The chain and sprockets are #40 so you can find the correct diameter sprockets online.

gears for the drive chain

You might take a look at "The Big Bearing Store"

https://thebigbearingstore.com/roller-chain-parts/

I got most of the parts for my blower rebuild there.  Very satisfied with price, shipping, and quality.  (so far)

It looks like it is the sprocket that is welded onto the auger assembly.  Size looks to be #40 chain, 31 teeth and 4 1/2 diameter.

That's unfortunate.  Can you weld?

I have a friend who welds.  My issue is finding the sprocket.

I did.  Can you use a 30 or 32 when it's supposed to be 31?

I would think yes.

You probably need new chain also.  If the sprocket is that worn it's almost certain that the chain is also.  You would adjust the length of the chain to fit what you have.

You are correct, it was probably six years ago now that I think on it. I did have to do some chain work.

@Craiggy  , hope you find that sprocket , agree with the # 40 chain , most important thing on a chain drive is to keep it lubricated , never let mine dry out , spray it before and after use , use a specific , CHAIN AND OPEN GEAR AREOSIL LUBRICANT , that will stay with it , that is also anti sling rated . regularly look things over , and improve , pete
