Help, what engine is this?

Recommended Posts

Picked this up at the scrap yard the other day and would really like to rebuild it.  Problem is, I don't have a clue what it is.I know it's a Kohler but no horsepower or model.  My guess is that it it's a K but not sure which one. The fan shield is missing.  The hood says GT-2500. The carb is in front and to the left with the air filter on the left. I'm new to Wheel Horse.  Any help would be appreciated.

That model was a one year only model and made with a 11hp Briggs. Just a basic aluminum version. Still have the though 8speed trans and able to use all of the normal attachments.

It appears to be a 1981 GT 2500 Anniversary Special with an 11 hp Briggs B-252417.  My neighbor and I have one here in Pace, Fl.

This manual should be helpful. If you want to replace the B&S with a Kohler that wouldn't be any problem. When you find an engine you'll plan to use let us know and we can guide you through the wiring etc.

And by the way- good save keeping this out of the scrap yard!

A little time and effort, and it will give another 50 years of service.
