Identify my pest… by what it leaves behind?

Recommended Posts

Pullstart

I’ve seen these droppings before.  I think that’s what they are.  I moved a large item that was about 1/2” off the ground and found a neat pile of these.  I’ve seen ‘em before too.  They are just under 1/8” diameter and very uniform.

anyone got a crappy idea as to who I’m dealing with?  We have mice at random living in the middle of a field, I’m seen just a couple rats, but these droppings are surely not theirs.

I searched and found that termites leave uniform 6 sided droppings of varying wood colors, but these are smooth and I don’t see any skid damage or flying insects.

At that size they are almost certainly from a rodent of some sort. They are the wrong shape for a mouse, which are oblong and pill shaped, rats are similar. They are the right shape for a rabbit, but the wrong size and consistency by the looks of it. They may be from a mole.

I find similar ones all through my wood piles, so your suspect should be something with a range that includes Middleville MI and DIllsburg PA, which probably would include most common rodents.

clueless

Reptile dropping usually have a small white spot on the end especially lizards. But lizards dropping aren't usually in a pile.

That makes sense, more than odd rodents that I never seem to see.  Is it poop, or eggs, or something else?

Spider poop 💩 unless you have some really big cockroaches, termites or bedbugs . I searched [ how to identify pest by their poop ] and searching images I couldn’t find a small rodent with anything that looks like that .

I was thinking seeds too, maybe a rodent stored them there?  Chipmunks have a habit of that!
