5025 Differential Bolts & Nuts

Recommended Posts

JunkHeap

I am rebuilding a really battered 753 that I had bought many moons ago. The transmission was very loud and nasty so i tore it down in the intensions of rebuilding. I found Wheel Horse parts and more for the bearings, seals and gaskets, and I am doing electrolysis on the steel and cast parts.

I want to replace the 4 bolts and flex lock nuts for the differential, because the bolt heads and nuts are so badly rusted. They are part number 1329 and 1316 in the parts list for the 5025. Are these bolts grade 8 or 5? I found the proper length on McMaster Carr 5/16-18 x 3 1/4, but I just wanted to make sure they are the same grade. The symbol on the heads are completely corroded away.

Some of the gears are pretty corroded and you can see the "water line" on them. How bad can they be before searching for a replacement? I'm sure the ones I have would work but I want to eventually run a mower deck and a snowblower and I want to make sure they can handle the stress.

Thanks for the input. -Jeff

Go with grade 8 from Mcmaster or if you are conservative get some grade 9.

953 nut

The McMaster-Carr number for the 5/16-18 nuts is 94830A130
