Besides, it makes referencing back much easier if you ever need to. It probably will be a clean slate for the most part. New ideas, new life. I usually wait till winter to build something but I just have the itch lol

Oldskool 6,644 #81 Posted September 15, 2022 I'm thinking I want a wider rear stance. Other then wheel spacers or custom wheels what's my next best.? I would like to have the inside of the tires wide enough for a seat and and my butt to fit without friction burns. I have a Toro vert shaft rear thats just about correct in width with hubs but not sure if I want to go that route.

FYI: The section of the axle that rides on the bearing is normally hardened. On wide axles and a normal transmission body that doesn't happen. I don't know if this will be an issue for me later. Proper lube it probably won't give you any issues. The GT14 axles probably won't be a possibility for this build. It's a good idea though.

Only way I can't think of is about 3, maybe 4" of spacers OR Make a set of custom wheels with wayout " backspacing ".

I'm mentally thinking of the IH-Farmalls, the WH Seniors, and the US Army original Hummer. All of these have the wheel axles supported separately from the drive axle. If you were of a mind, you could go as wide as you want with the wheel spacing and wheel axles (which need only be as long as needed for good support at each side) and then use a chain drive to link the drive axle to the wheel axle on each side. This preserves the differential action and can give you extra ground clearance under the transaxle if you wished. You could even introduce up or down gearing with the choice of sprockets and add braking on the wheel axles. Hmmm, don't you have experience already with a final drive that uses a chain and with split braking?

Even had a thought it could be added to a swing arm and have rear suspension. An added expense I would rather not add to the build. With some spitballing, redesigning, and redirecting I think I can get away with stock width or maybe 2in wheel spacers.

People backside. ACTUAL measurement. Not what you wish it were. Carefully consider whether you will use fenders or not. If no fenders add a strong 4" to that distance. Otherwise just add in for whatever guards etc. You could change the wheel backspacing to zero or add more spacers. I don't think it'll matter either way.

Oldskool 6,644 #94 Posted September 16, 2022 So I'm thinking this is going to end up being a lowered toy. Not 100% in tractor form. Just for cruising the neighborhood, around the yard and maybe local town celebrations..

Parts and info collection will still carry on. I would like to put a PTO clutch on this build in hopes of having some hydraulics for various tasks. To start with its probably going to require a custom pulley of sorts for the transmission drive belt. This is where the questions begin. I have alot of the linkages and im sure I will have to fab a few as well. I have these parts indicated in the pic. What am I missing as far as the clutch itself goes? Also how much shaft should be sticking out past the pulley for this to be functional? The needle bearings of the the pto bell ride on a shaft extension/bushing that is held in place by those 2 crescent parts. could be made on a lathe with the right skill set You can see the groove that the crescent clips would slot into. Thanks for that info. I think this build has drifted very far from its original intent. Whatever comes out of this mess probably won't have a pto on it. Oldskool 6,644 #97 Posted September 17, 2022 So sliding stuff around on the floor, this mess is where things ended up before supper. Thinking this may end up as a C cab T bucket style tractor. Things may change again before tomorrow comes to an end lol 2
