wh5208speed 645 #1 Posted January 18, 2022 Besides waiting till summer, does anyone have advise on how to fill the 8 Speed transmission faster? My 314-8 had the dreaded short tube that makes filling the transmission very difficult. I started with a tall funnel and kept having issues of it leaking everywhere. After getting a flashlight out, I could see that the fill neck gets reduced to the size of a straw. What a pain!! I bought one of the little pumps at TSC and had to get some line to reduce the size to fit in the small hole. I kept the gear oil in a warm place, but it took every bit of 2 hours of filling. If I had to do it all over again, it would have been easier to remove the rear fender and gas tank. There has to be a better way!! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

peter lena 8,627 #3 Posted January 18, 2022 @ rig854 , only if you want to, when using the gear oil bottle , put a vent hole in the bottom of that bottle , while upside down , the oil literally falls out of it ! get your set up ready before , bottle vent , I use a sharp knife , immediate venting drop response. keep it oily , pete 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Pullstart 62,867 #5 Posted January 18, 2022 If you prefer not to remove the shifter, you can even relieve the case pressure / vent with one of the top 3/8” bolts in the transmission. These holes have been used for seat springs and sheet metal mounts alike. squonk 41,110 #6 Posted January 18, 2022 I don't think the issue is the oil leaving the bottle. It's the oil getting into the trans without it backing up out of the fill hole. The way you described the bottle vent is what I did. I put a long funnel down to the to the fill neck and flipped the jug upside-down and cut a vent hole on the bottom of the jog. Because the fill hole is reduced to such a small opening, it just overflowed between the funnel and the fill neck since it is not a perfect seal, spilling everywhere. It creates a vent that allows faster pouring… I've have always done that with the hydros, but this hole reduction before it goes into the transmission is about the size of the hole. rjg854 11,361 #13 Posted January 18, 2022 When I'm filling a hydro, I put a Romex cable staple alongside of the funnel and then I have no trouble filling through the neck. Leaves a little room for venting, don't be shocked, that staple is to big to be able to fall down the neck. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
