MOTORCYCLE ENGINE

Recommended Posts

SO.... I have been thinking (I know... really bad idea... right...?) :laughing-rolling:

And I am questioning... why wouldn't someone take a motorcycle engine, such as one off of fleabay... and put on a Wheel Horse? :scratchead:

Maybe a point of conversation?

Something like this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/175107648799?hash=item28c53aad1f%3Ag%3AKD0AAOSw10Nh31ly&LH_ItemCondition=3000

or

https://www.ebay.com/itm/393805203150?hash=item5bb09e86ce:g:qgIAAOSw-S5hvpYa

And, as another point, one of the reasons why this would be appealing to do on a Wheel Horse is the following rotating assembly:

1994 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 XLH1200 ENGINE MOTOR ...

Been done. Back in 2008, there was a Harley-powered 400 series puller at the PA show.

The pic below is another example.

Not sure Don, but very similar to the old Honda CB series inline 4 cylinder.

I know there is a pic of the Harley Horse somewhere here, but I haven't found it yet.

I remember some discussion on here about the Harley tractor. Someone figured out that the input shaft on the unidrive tranny could take 65hp...

I wouldn't have tried it, but someone did.

Yeah, I think as long as you got a splined pulley (pretty easy to find nowadays...) you could do it relatively... easily...

Disregard the engine itself... even though it would probably work... focus more on the engine stand... I think this is what you would have to fabricate for one of these engines to work on a Horse...

There’s a guy on U tube that put together  a old Sears garden tractor with a Kawasaki engine and trans, the dang thing would fly.Very dangerous but highly recommended. As a matter of fact he wound up wrecking it.

If I were selecting an engine candidate , I'd (personally) shy away from a V-twin design .

I'd stick with the thumping low-rev torque of a big single valver .

Hard to argue with that.

Twins are neat when they're smooth runners but....

There's something about a nice thumping idle.

I guess since we are "going there". I think the mods need to make an extreme modification section just for Snoopy and Red.

If you hover over the photo, you might see a link at the bottom of your screen that says it's from a Honda CBR1000.
