good coating of A aluminum oxide and B zinc

I've never heard of this before, and thought I had heard everything...

I don't see any evidence of Zinc in the ingredients.  Aluminum (but not OXIDE, rather HYDROXIDE) and Magnesium, yes, but no Zinc

If you want Zinc, you're probably better off with a cold galvanize spray before assembly.

Mylanta Tonight has the zinc  , the grey Anti Seize has the galvo properties  like cold galvo its just gets every where though good stuff but a mess to use ,

Mylanta will give you a very good coating of A aluminum oxide and B zinc  witch is the main ingredient in Mylanta and gives some of the best protection as far as threaded coating go and you thought it was only for heartburn

I learned something today!

Mission accomplished. I'm off until tomorrow!

There's no evidence of that.  Doesn't seem to have the Aluminum Hydroxide either but does have Calcium Carbonate.

I think I'll just stick with regular Anti-Sieze instead of Anti-Acid, thank you!

I use anti-sieze everywhere that doesn't call for a dry torque. Whoever invented it is right up there with whoever invented the cordless drill in my world. There should be a Nobel "made life easier" prize...

Didn't make cleanup any easier.  One small dab of anti-sieze can spread all over you, your hands, tools and workshop....

Only reason they are square is so jam nut can fit over them

pit might be mentioned already, but why couldn’t someone thread the nut on before installing the screw?  One added step on the assembly line?

I'd like to go with this statement.:) But Jim keeps bringing it up so that Kevin don't forget. Kevin's day of retaliation will come I'm sure,:hide: It's all good though, I can take as well as give.:D

If I remember correctly Ryan's son ended up wearing most of it.:)

That's the way I ALWAYS install them.

It's a pita to get my meat fingers in beside the hub flange so I thread the nut on the set screw, then use the socket with an extension to hold the screw and my hand can be up away from the area.

OMG... that would make one HELLUVA mess!

Although, it's much bigger than a lip balm tube, it's about an inch or so in diameter.  Kinda hard to miss.  Sorta like the proverbial 'roll of quarters' in your pocket!

@Pullstart  agree with you on the added nut first , thats an obvious step up on that lock down , another thing is that using a 6 pt box wrench , on the flat horizontal pull , is the strength you want , mechanical advantage. also 8 pt sockets , work on those 4 pt  , bolts . agree with the anti seize . when you are dealing with a long setting thread area , using a  BOTTOM TAP AND PENETRATING OIL ,  will clean out rust and finish threading. if you are not cleaning out the thread bore , you could be piling up rust / scale preventing bolt from doing its job,  don't ask me how I know this .pete

Sure, I understand, I'm just correcting your mis-statement that it contains Zinc because it doesn't.

You are of course free to do what pleases you!
