How bout another pic of the Chevy truck on the flat car! 

 

 

I have a very large formal front room. I thought about setting up there but really can't because of 2 rambunctious dogs. I have been thinking about building some kind of shelf around the perimeter of the ceiling above the  door trim. I used to have a N gauge layout on top of the piano in the picture.

 A pub/restaurant about 20 miles from me, had a model railway running round an shelving in the dining room. Had a train running all the time. Got stopped by the health and safety killjoys on safety grounds.

For a Chevy truck that tailgate lettering looks suspiciously like it says "Ford".

Everybody is right, there are 2 trucks. The Chevy pulls the trailer with the Camaro while the Ford just sits pretty.

It works. I set it up on the floor not that long ago for my nephew. I have a room full of old toys. Had about 20 Hess trucks new in boxes and every time he visits he takes one. I tell him he has to keep it in the box but he dosnt. They are all played with and who knows where the boxes are. I think I have 3 left. I don't mind he loves them.

I like running long trains.  I have set up loops in the neighborhood of 9' by 18' at the KATY depot and run a train that covered 50% to 60% of the track.

 

@squonk do you have your siding set up on electrical blocks so you can let one train idle on the siding while you run a second train on the main loop?

 

@slim67  that is an entry level set from the late '70s or early '80s.  It was just before Lionel went to dc power to take more cost out of the entry level sets.

My wife inherited her uncle's Lionel train about three years ago.  I planned to make it run around our Christmas tree but ended up expanding--and the work continues.  There are two engines and two separate tracks.  The engines and cars were made between 1947 and 1951. It took quite a bit of work to get them running again as they were stored in a trunk since the 1970's.  What I didn't realize was that when new, each train cost one ounce of gold ~$39.00.  Hmmm must be why I never had a train when I was a kid! The amount of technology was amazing for the time. The engines chug smoke, have whistles,  remote switches and Lionel make a truck load of accessories.  The buildings (except for the few that came with the train) were made by me and I am learning how to use LED lights to make flashing lights.  I have made most of the trees and the mountain.  My theme is family and so the business are named after our grandchildren,  The grave yard at the church has headstones for family members who have passed. The hot air balloon rises and falls twice a minute.  Our grand kids enjoy running the trains.  I made an elevator that they can crank and it augers the beads into the train car.  They each have a switch that can flash an LED either red or green in order for the the hoghead (me) to stop the train at their stop. In the far right upper corner of the first picture is a model of a barn I helped rebuild about 7 years ago.  If you would like to see this octagon stone walled barn, google: round barn on clear creek.  It was built in late 1800's and we made it into a venue. I along with two others, built trusses to support the old 2x4 rafters, laid 4,500 square feet of oak flooring, removed all floor joists and installed new ones to bring to current code.  The owners had a saw mill brought to the site and they cut 30 oak trees for us to use in remodeling.  It was an entertaining job but one of that scope,  I'll never be able to take on again.

I've hung on to a fairly extensive collection of Lionel from the 1970s and 1980s that my dad and I built up. Rescued them all just before my he nearly junked them all in a not-so-good period of his life. They've been carefully stored and transported across several moves, waiting for the day I'll have a place with enough space to set up a layout again. Once in a while I get a few items out to check on them.

 

Here's a set of Alco FA's in Delaware and Hudson colors. The real railroad bought several sets of Santa Fe PA's (the big passenger cousins to the FA's) and repainted them in blue swapped out for Santa Fe's red, but kept the famous "warbonnet" look. These were a lower-cost Lionel engine set that I did some additional paint work on to complete the look. I was probably back in high school in the 80's when I did that.

 

Another one set up to run for a bit, and probably in a different house than the last! The locomotive for the "Blue Comet" passenger set made in the 1970s -- One among the first group of trains and sets that put Lionel back on the map in the '70s.
