A 6.5 hp Greyhound single cylinder. Made for Harbor Freight Greyhound is the predecessor to the famous Predator engines. I want the HH-60 if I can find it.

in my honest opinion the small tecs are a little low on power. if i were you i wouild look for a k181 8hp kohler :) you wont be disappointed. and ontop of it the holes are in frame for kohler already

Would have been nice to know that previously.  Opens up a whole raft of potential new issues #1 is the crankshaft in the right location??? Techys had mounting plates to raise the crankshaft so it would align with the belt guard and other stuff.

Sorry, I forgot that it’s not the original engine, I am just used to it. Do you have any measurements of where the crankshaft should be?

Sorry i do not have a 607. (Just an L107)  maybe some one has one and can measure'  Misalignment, over time may explain you 2/3 gear being worn out.

Or bad lubrication over 55 years this is the oil that came out of it when I got it…30B46F39-CEFB-4358-B454-6D6A9500E0D6.jpeg.2221f7ed4df236714897552cffab894a.jpeg

the debris is from the drain bucket sitting outside overnight while I flushed the tranny before I took it all apart.

When I said misalignment I should have been clearer.  if belt guard and guides didn't line up well with the replacement engine the she would have been difficult to shift as the belt may not always have stopped leading to a bunch of gear grinding over time and thus your 2/3 issue.
