Stormin 9,981 #1 Posted January 8, 2022 (edited) Couple of months or so ago, I lost low speed on my C81. So the trans was stripped and I found the hi/low selector fork was broken. Friend of mine successfully welded it up and I got it back last week. Today I set too to reassemble the trans. Using one of Steveasaurus's videos so I would get things back as they should be. I did notice as I replaced the hi/lo selector, that the bolt had a slight wobble. Anyway it did go in ok and the selector worked ok. Getting the detent balls in was another thing. Three times the last one dropped down into the case bottom. I had to take the hi/low selector out to recover it. Now I think the bolt must have got ever so slightly bent below the shoulder and the fitting and removing of it weakened it at that point. The result is in the photo' below. As you can see, I managed to get the broken bit of thread out after much fiddling and Hopefully I can get a replacement or if push comes to shove, another trans'. stevasaurus 22,764 #2 Posted January 8, 2022 Norm, can't believe you broke that bolt. Anyway, TORO sells those parts for the fork assembly either as a unit or by the individual part.. Stormin 9,981 #8 Posted May 21, 2022 Got back to this today. Stevasaurus kindly sourced a new bolt, no joy in the U.K. and it was delivered this afternoon. Even with the postage from the U.S. it was a fraction of the cost of what I was going to charge for the complete mechanism over here. That is now fitted and tomorrow I'll continue with the rebuild. Stormin 9,981 #13 Posted May 22, 2022 Had a go at the trans today and to save some earache, took some photo's. Had to make a gasket. Everything seemed free so fitted the other case half. Trying the gears something didn't sound just right so split the box. I can't see anything amiss. Everything seems to work ok but I've called it a day for now. Stormin 9,981 #16 Posted May 25, 2022 Trans all back together now and refitted to the tractor. By 'eck it's a heavy, awkward lump. Tried the gears and all seem to work ok. Stormin 9,981 #17 Posted May 27, 2022 Got everything back together on the tractor today and off the lift. Tractor fired up pretty quickly with a few squirts of fuel into the carb. Not bad after 7 months sitting on the lift. Purred like a kitten. Drove it about the yard and all gears working fine plus hi and low. SWMBO said , "You'll be a happy bunny now".
