Maxwell-8 4,277 #1 Posted January 1, 2022 I am negotiating a deal on a late '60's Commando 7. Tractor data doesn't include this model. Is it a bit more rare? only export model? He doesn't want money but my Kohler M16 I have just laying around. He claims the original Kohler is running, everything is working. Mowing deck is included but needs a LOT of fabrication to get put to use. Would this be a fair deal? PS. are those 8" front tires stock? 1

8ntruck 7,016 #5 Posted January 2, 2022 You got me curious, so I started searching around. Tractor Data lists a Commando 7 as being powered by a vertical shaft engine. Other sources, including old posts here in this forum, talk about knocked down tractors being shipped from the U.S. to the Belgium factory for assembly. These were done in the late 60's and had horizontal shaft engines. Looks like you have found a Belgian horse. Pretty rare, I'd guess.

Also quickly pull/reinstall the transmission drain plug to check for water and metal filings. Drive it and run it through all the gears.
Pullstart 62,905 #7 Posted January 2, 2022 “Jane” is a Commando 6. Note the skinny front tires. See how they fly. @8ntruck there was a Commando V7 Stateside, but I believe the Horizontal flavor was European market only. 1
8ntruck 7,016 #8 Posted January 2, 2022 Oops. I just checked @Maxwell-8 location. He is in Belgium. The horizontal shaft late 60's Commando 7 won't be as rare there as they are here. 1

So it is rare if there are not many in the US 8 hours ago, 8ntruck said: Belgium factory for assembly. I think it is USA-made since the WH factory strated production a year later in 1969. Found out that commando 7's were a one year run in 1968. Thanks for your input! Edited January 2, 2022 by Maxwell-8
